Comprehensive Tools for Interactive Visualization and Simulation

The Interactive Visualization and Simulation tools in SAS/OR software include QSIM, and the experimental Network Visualization (NV) Workshop applications. QSIM provides a graphical drag-and-drop modeling environment for modeling and analyzing queuing systems using discrete event simulation. The NV Workshop application is an interactive, graphics-oriented tool for investigating network or graph data.



Discrete Event Simulation

QSIM is a graphical user interface application for modeling and analyzing queueing systems using discrete event simulation. Simulation models are used in a wide variety of scenarios encountered in network and telecommunications systems, manufacturing systems, and transportation networks. For example, before instituting a reengineered business process, you could use QSIM to model and simulate the new process to gain insight into how the new process might behave.

QSIM requires no programming and provides an extensive menu of prebuilt components so that you can build sophisticated models quickly. Individual components include sampling, queueing, logical routing, and monitoring, and these can be modified easily and grouped together to create customized modules. Built-in animation facilitates monitoring and debugging of models. Statistical analysis of simulation results can be done either within QSIM or handed off seamlessly to other analytical modules within SAS.



Network Visualization (Experimental)

Network visualization techniques have proven useful in extracting information hidden in network data, particularly for large network data sets. The Network Visualization (NV) Workshop application is designed for visualizing and investigating networks of all sizes. Using a combination of data tables, statistical graphs, and network plots, you can selectively filter the observations to help uncover patterns and relationships hidden in the network data.
