Installation Note 49777: Installing a SAS® 9.3 Metadata Server-based environment to use Java 7 in the Windows environment
This note assumes that you have read and are familiar with SAS Note 49296: "Using Java 7 with SAS® 9.3 TS1M2."
This SAS Note guides you through installing SAS 9.3 (TS1M2) in the Windows operating environment to include a 32-bit Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 7 Update 15 or later.
Important: Before starting this process, read through the entire note so that you are aware of all preliminary requirements and potential issues as well as optional ways to accomplish these tasks.
Requirements
- Your SAS installation order must be SAS 9.3 TS1M2 Revision 13W18 or later, for a planned deployment.
SAS® 9.2 and earlier releases of SAS 9.3 are not supported.
- If you are not currently running SAS 9.3 TS1M2, you can request it by completing this form, or by contacting your SAS Installation Representative, or by contacting your SAS account team. (If you need help with identifying your account team, call SAS directly at 1-800-727-0025, option 2.)
- If you are installing on a Windows 7 operating system, it must be at Service Pack 1 before you can install SAS.
- Verify that your other system requirements have been met:
- System Requirements for SAS® 9.3 Foundation for Microsoft Windows
- System Requirements for SAS® 9.3 Foundation for Microsoft Windows for x64
- Decide which Deployment Plan to use during the installation phase. Click here for the Standard Deployment Plans for SAS 9.3. Then follow the checklist to install any additional third-party requirements necessary. The third-party requirements can be obtained through our Third-Party Software for SAS® 9.3 (TS1M0, TS1M1, and TS1M2).
Note: It is essential that you preinstall a 32-bit JRE version 7 Update 15 or later before starting the SAS® Deployment Wizard, so that you can point to it when prompted. Download and install the 32-bit JRE 7 Update 15 (jre-7u15-windows-i586.exe) or later from our Third-Party Software for SAS 9.3 (TS1M0, TS1M1, and TS1M2) page or directly from the Oracle download page.
- For a deployment with a web tier, make sure you look at SAS® 9.3 Support for Web Application Servers and HTTP Servers for the correct versions and documentation for JBoss, IBM WebSphere, and Oracle WebLogic.
- Read these installation and configuration guides:
- After the installation, perform any appropriate postinstallation configuration:
- Validate the SAS installation by following the steps in the Instructions.html
file that is displayed when you click Finish during the installation process. This file is also known as the Configuration Guidelines and Details and the default location for this file is C:\SAS\configuration_directory\Lev1\Documents\Instructions.html.
- Depending on what you installed, you might need to follow steps covered in these guides:
- Follow the steps in the "SAS Hot Fix Analysis, Download and Deployment Tool's Usage Guide" to download and apply hot fixes. Ensure that Java 7 hot fixes listed under the hot fix tabs in links at SAS Note 49296: "Using Java 7 with SAS® 9.3 TS1M2." are included as appropriate for products in your installation.
.
- After you have installed your SAS® Foundation products, validate them as documented in the SAS 9.3 Qualification Tools User’s Guide. If any products or tools do not validate, contact the Windows BI Team in SAS Technical Support.
- If appropriate, install and deploy software on the client and middle tiers.
Important Information about Installing SAS to Work with Java
Make sure you do
not select “Use the recommended Java Runtime Environment.” Instead, select
Select an existing Java Runtime Environment, and then click
Browse and point to the JRE 7 Update 15 location. Here is an example:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7 or C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.7.0_15
Tips for Installing with JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (EAP) 5.2.0 AND JAVA 7
- You must be installing from a SAS 9.3 (TS1M2) order that contains Revision 13W18 or higher.
- Download the 32-bit JRE 7 Update 15 (or higher) from the links provided on our Third Party website and install it.
- Download and install JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (EAP) 5.2.0 from the Red Hat website.
- Download and install the 64-bit JDK 1.7.0_15 from Oracle website
- Decide which Deployment plan file you will be using and perform the additional steps in the associated pre-installation checklist. See SAS Note 44320 for more details.
- During the installation, if you selected the JBoss EAP 5.2.0 Application Server, along with the JDK 1.7.0_15 on a Windows environment, these screens appear:
When selecting the JBoss Application Server (with the JBoss EAP 5.2.0 version, make sure you browse to the jboss-as directory):
The following prompt might occur: "Do you want to continue?" If this happens, click Yes to continue.
When selecting the Java Development Kit, the following prompt might occur: "Do you want to continue?" If this happens, click Yes to continue.
(Note: This example uses the JDK 1.7.0_15 version.)
- Perform any appropriate postinstallation configuration:
- Follow the steps in the SAS Hot Fix Analysis, Download and Deployment Tool's Usage Guide to download and apply hot fixes. Ensure that Java 7 hot fixes listed under the Hot Fix tabs in links at SAS Note 49296: "Using Java 7 with SAS® 9.3 TS1M2" are included as appropriate for products in your installation.
- After you have installed your SAS Foundation products, validate them as documented in the SAS® 9.3 Qualification Tools User’s Guide. If any products or tools do not validate, contact the Windows BI Team in SAS Technical Support.
- If appropriate, install and deploy software on the client and middle tiers.
