In SAS 9.3, all of the Windows platforms use the same Java Runtime Environment (JRE). That is, no special JRE is required for Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2. (In SAS^® 9.2, a special JRE is required.)

During the installation process, the following SAS^® Deployment Wizard dialog box appears. The default selection is Use the recommended Java Runtime Environment. To keep the default, click Next. The necessary version (JRE 1.6.0_24 32-bit) is then installed.

What Is New in SAS^® 9.3 Regarding the JRE Installation?

The SAS Deployment Wizard 9.3 executes the java -fullversion command to verify the functionality of the required JRE (JRE 1.6.0_24). This command also verifies that the jvm.dll file is working, which is also required for the SAS 9.3 installation. If the correct JRE is not found during the SAS Deployment Wizard process, it will be installed automatically for you if you select Use the recommended Java Runtime Environment. Otherwise, you can select Select an Existing Java Runtime Environment and point to a JRE that is in a different directory location and/or is the required version or later.
