SAS®9 OLAP Cube Update — New Functionality in SAS 9.2
Provides an overview of new features for updating cubes. These new features will be available in our OLAP Server software in 9.2 (). View the presentation (PDF)
SAS®9 OLAP Server: Cube Building - Data Preparation and Cube Storage
This paper introduces the terminology that is needed to understand multidimensional databases (cubes), provides an overview of the structure of a cube, and explains how to prepare data for loading into a multidimensional cube. This paper is written for database administrators and applications developers who build cubes. Read the paper (PDF)
Taking Your SAS/MDDB Server Applications to the Next Level
In SAS®9, the new SAS OLAP Server implements the industry standard MDX (Multidimensional Expression) query language and a new threaded server that's designed to support many concurrent users. While there is no automatic conversion of Version 8 SAS/MDDB applications to the new server, you can use all the knowledge gained when designing your MDDBs to lay out the new cubes quickly and easily. This paper presents some guidelines and case studies for moving your MDDB applications to the next level as well as examples of application customizations. Read the paper (PDF)
V9 OLAP: An Architectural Overview
This paper gives details about the new Version 9 OLAP Server architecture. Details of the architecture will show how the OLAP server scales for multi-user access and how it can be tuned to provide the best performance for your applications. Read the paper (PDF)
OLAP Server: Focusing on Performance (presented at SUGI28)
SAS OLAP server performance is composed of two primary metrics: query response time and number of transactions processed per second (i.e., throughput). This paper covers several factors to consider in achieving the best performance from your OLAP server including: hardware, cube design and implementation, and query formulation. Several tuning options are also presented that can aid in improving performance. Read the paper (PDF)
