Third-Party Software for SAS® 9.1.3 Foundation with Service Pack 4

This page contains minimum version requirements of third party software for use with SAS 9.1.3 Foundation with Service Pack 4.

Java Runtime Environments and Java Development Kits

A few SAS 9.1.3 products, including SAS 9.1.3 Foundation require updated Java Runtime Environments (JREs) beginning with Service Pack 4. Most Java clients, however, will continue to use the JREs that were provided with the original release of SAS® 9.1 Foundation. As client requirements are updated, they will be noted here. A few SAS 9.1.3 products require a full Java Development Kit in addition to a JRE and will be noted here as well. The original JREs are provided on the Third Party Components - Volume 1 and 2 CDs. The new JREs are provided on the Java Runtime Environments for SAS - Volume 1 and 2 CDs. These JREs can also be downloaded directly from the vendor as noted in the following tables.

When these JREs are installed from SAS media onto the Windows platform, they will show up in the Windows Add or Remove Programs dialog box as shown below:

SAS Private JRE (J2SE(tm)Java Runtime Environment 1.4.1)

Private JRE (J2SE(tm)Java Runtime Environment 1.4.2_09)

These JREs are provided by Sun Microsystems, IBM, and HP. They are equivalent to the versions that can be downloaded from the vendor websites, but have been configured for exclusive use by SAS products installed on your system.

Java Runtime Environments and Java Development Kits for SAS® Client Applications

When the Java Runtime Environments listed below are obtained from Sun, HP, or IBM they require an update to support new Daylight Saving Time changes beginning March 11, 2007. See Effect of changes to Daylight Saving Time (DST) in the USA on Java (with SAS® 9.1.3) for complete details.

Java Runtime Environments that are installed from new SAS media obtained after May 16th, 2007 contain the updates to comply with the new Daylight Saving Time changes. The external label on your SAS Installation Kit includes information about your SAS software order, specifically a "rev number". SAS Installation Kits with a "rev number" of 33 or higher also contain Java Runtime Environments which are updated for the new Daylight Saving Time changes.

The following JREs are provided on the Third-Party Components - Volume 1 and 2, and Java Runtime Environments for SAS - Volume 1 and 2 CDs. Most clients will use the JREs included on the Third Party Components - Volume 1 and 2 CDs, unless noted otherwise.

Obtaining the IBM 32-bit and 64-bit 1.4.2_10 SDK/JRE for AIX

IBM uses SDK (Software Development Kit) to refer to the IBM implementation of the JDK (Java Development Kit). This section provides instructions for downloading the 32-bit and 64-bit IBM 1.4.2_10 SDK/JRE. This is necessary if you are either installing SAS® clients on AIX which require a 32-bit 1.4.2_10 JRE, or if you are installing SAS 9.1.3 Foundation with Service Pack 4 on AIX and do not have the Java Runtime Environments for SAS - Volume 1 CD. If you have ordered an upgrade package which contains the folder labeled "SAS® 9.1.3 Service Pack", the Java Runtime Environments for SAS® - Volume 1 CD is included within that folder.

You must first download the 32-bit or 64-bit 1.4.2 OLD Base SDK from the IBM AIX Download and Service Site in addition to downloading the IBM APAR required for the installation of the 32-bit or 64-bit 1.4.2_10 SDK.

After downloading the Old Base SDK image, you must find the appropriate version of the SDK and its corresponding APAR# from the IBM Fix Info tables.

The IBM 32-bit SDK Fix Info Table contains information regarding each 32-bit SDK.

The IBM 64-bit SDK Fix Info Table contains information regarding each 64-bit SDK.

Once the specific APAR# is located, proceed to IBM Fix Central where you will need to do the following:

  1. Select: "Unix Servers"
  2. Select: "AIX Operating System"
  3. Select: The version of the AIX Operating System where the SDK is to be installed
  4. Select: "Specific fixes"
  5. Select: "Continue"
  6. Select: "Search by APAR number or abstract"
  7. Enter the APAR# of the required version of the SDK (IY72469 or IY72502)
  8. Highlight the SDK and select "Add to my download list"

You will be given multiple options for packaging and downloading the files needed to install the SDK.

The IBM System Management Information Tool (SMIT) is required in order to install these versions of the IBM SDK. If you are unfamiliar with using SMIT, please see the following IBM Redbook.

Java Software Development Kits

The following table identifies Java Software Development Kit (JDK) requirements for supported application servers and z/OS. Application servers and servlet engines require the use of a full JDK. It is not necessary to download a JDK for the Websphere Application Server. The Websphere Application Server comes embedded with a specific version of the IBM JDK which is automatically installed and used by Websphere. For z/OS, there is no separate Java Runtime Environment, and therefore a JDK must be used with SAS 9.1.3 Foundation. For SAS Java clients and other platforms supported by SAS 9.1.3 Foundation, use the JRE recommendations listed above.

The JREs listed below require an update to support new Daylight Saving Time changes beginning March 11, 2007. See Effect of changes to Daylight Saving Time (DST) in the USA on Java (with SAS 9.1.3) for complete details.

Security Patches for WebLogic Server 8.1 SP3

The following security advisories were issued by BEA. Security Patches (identified by CR numbers) address the security vulnerabilities and can be applied to WebLogic Server 8.1 SP3. The links provide information on each security issue and should be used to evaluate if the patch is required in your environment. Upgrading to a later service pack, as suggested on some of the links below, is not supported by SAS.

You can verify patches already installed on the Admin or Managed server by opening the respective log and searching for the following text: "WebLogic Temporary Patch". As part of server startup, the server log lists patches installed. The following Managed server log excerpt shows that patches CR122962 and CR132541 are installed. It is recommended that the Admin and Managed servers be at the same patch level.
WebLogic Temporary Patch for CR122962 12/19/2005 14:12:24
WebLogic Temporary Patch for CR132541 10/27/2004 11:38:36

Certain security advisories are addressed by the same patch but you do not have to apply the patch twice. Patches that conflict with others in the list are addressed by "combination patch" - these are noted below.

Contact BEA Support with the CR number(s) to obtain listed patches and installation instructions.

Additional security advisories may be published by BEA. For any advisory not listed above, installing the associated patch is supported but not required. Upgrading to a later service pack, however, is not supported. We recommend that you review the current list of advisories to determine whether any additional patches are appropriate for your environment.

Required WebSphere Application Server 5.1 Fixes

Currently SAS supports WebSphere Application Server 5.1 with

(1) WebSphere Application Server Version 5.1 Fix Pack 1

(2) WebSphere Application Server Version 5.1.1 Cumulative Fix 2 or Cumulative Fix 5 or Cumulative Fix 14 or Cummulative Fix 15 or Cummulative Fix 17

These are separate fix packs that must be installed on WebSphere Application Server 5.1. After installation, WebSphere Application Server 5.1 will be updated to one of these IBM service levels supported by SAS 9.1.3 SP4: level 5.1.1.2, level 5.1.1.5, level 5.1.1.14, level 5.1.1.15, or 5.1.1.17

First apply WebSphere Application Server Version 5.1 Fix Pack 1 to bring the server from 5.1 to the 5.1.1 level. Please note that there are separate fix packs for the Base product and the ND product. If you have ND you will also need to install it's fix pack.

Read the "Readme" documentation associated with the selected Fix Pack. The "Readme" files tell you what files to download and how to install the cumulative fix:

  • Readme for WebSphere Application Server V5.1.1.14
  • Readme for WebSphere Application Server V5.1.1.15
  • Readme for WebSphere Application Server V5.1.1.17
  • Obtain the chosen cummulative Fix Pack directly from the IBM FTP support site. Download the applicable file for your particular platform. As with 5.1.1, there are separate cumulative fixes for the Base and the ND products, so if you have ND, you will also need to install it's cumulative fix.

  • 5.1.1 Cumulative Fix 2 FTP site
  • 5.1.1 Cumulative Fix 5 FTP site
  • 5.1.1 Cumulative Fix 14 FTP Site
  • 5.1.1 Cumulative Fix 15 FTP Site
  • 5.1.1 Cumulative Fix 17 FTP Site
  • Please note that when you go to these URLs, you can just download the package for your particular platform. The UpdateInstaller is included in the package so there is no need to download the UpdateInstaller separately. Read the Readme files at the above URLs for fix pack installation instructions. Set your JAVA_HOME to your WAS_HOME/java directory before running the updateWizard program.

You may apply any, or all of the following Cummulative Fixes to WAS 5.1.1, since they are all supported by SAS 9.1.3 SP4: Cumulative Fix 2, Cumulative Fix 5, Cumulative Fix 14, Cummulative Fix 15, and/or Cummulative Fix 17. Please read the associated "Readme" file and obtain the cumulative Fix from the IBM support FTP site.

    Required WebSphere 6.0 Fixes

Currently SAS supports WebSphere Application Server 6.0 with:

    (1) WebSphere Application Server V6.0 Refresh Pack 2

    (2) WebSphere Application Server V6.0.2 Fix Pack 15 or WebSphere Application Server V6.0.2 Fix Pack 19

    (3) Java SDK 1.4.2 SR6 Cumulative Fix for IBM WebSphere Application Server

    (4) APAR PK31745; 6.0.2.17: deadlock in utf-8 servlet response NOTE: If you have installed Fix Pack 15, you must apply this APAR. If you have installed Fix Pack 19, however, separate application of this APAR is unnecessary, since it is already included in Fix Pack 19.

    (5) Two web container custom properties to be set

Before applying service to any WepSphere installation, make sure all servers, node agents, and dmgrs are stopped. Also do a backupConfig operation for each profile.

First, apply WebSphere Application Server V6.0 Refresh Pack 2 to bring the product from the 6.0 to the 6.0.2 level. Click on the applicable tab for the correct download page for your platform. Read the Readme for IBM WebSphere Application Server V6.0.2 before applying the refresh pack.

Second, apply WebSphere Application Server V6.0.2 Fix Pack 15 to bring the product from the 6.0.2 to the 6.0.2.15 level or apply WebSphere Application Server V6.0.2 Fix Pack 19. Click on the applicable tab for the correct download page for your platform. Read the Readme for IBM WebSphere Application Server V6.0.2.15 or the Readme for WebSphere Application Server V6.0.2.19 before applying the fix pack.

Third, apply Java SDK 1.4.2 SR6 Cumulative Fix for IBM WebSphere Application Server to bring the product SDK from the 6.0.2 to the 6.0.2.15 level. Click on the applicable tab for the correct download page for your platform. Read the Readme for Java SDK 1.4.2 SR6 Cumulative Fix for IBM WebSphere Application Server before applying the cumulative fix.

Fourth, if you have installed Fixpack 15, you must separately apply APAR fix PK31745; 6.0.2.17: deadlock in utf-8 servlet response to pick up a fix required by SAS web applications running under WebSphere. Separate application of this APAR is only necessary if you have installed Fix Pack 15. If you have applied Fix Pack 19, this APAR is automatically applied. Read the Readme for PK31745 before applying this fix.

Fifth, you must set a web container custom property (discussed below) to force WebSphere to use the synchronous TCP channel behavior required by SAS web applications.

From the URLs above, download the package for your particular platform. The UpdateInstaller is included in the package, so, a separate download and installation of the UpdateInstaller is not needed. Read the Readme files for specific service installation instructions.

    Required Custom Properties

After applying all service, you must add two web container custom properties to each server where your SAS applications are deployed. From the WebSphere Application Server admin console, perform the following:

    Eclipse Development Environments

    Web Browsers

The SAS® Business Intelligence Platform and any solutions built on that platform only support Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 and higher.

The SAS® 9.1 Foundation was tested using the Web browsers listed below. Higher versions might also be used, but there may be compatibility issues.

For the UNIX and VMS platforms, SAS 9.1 Foundation was developed to support a Mozilla-based browser for Help and Online Documentation display and the viewing of ODS HTML output. SAS recommends the use of the Netscape or Mozilla browser supplied by the operating system vendor.

For the Windows platforms, SAS 9.1 Foundation uses Microsoft Internet Explorer for wbrowse and can use either Microsoft Internet Explorer or an embedded browser to display ODS results.

    Web (HTTP) Servers

Web (HTTP) servers are frequently configured for use as proxy servers that support load balancing and firewall configurations in front of the Web application servers that host the SAS Web applications. HTTP servers can also be used to serve static content that is associated with Java web applications. Refer to your selected Web application server vendor's configuration requirements for a list of HTTP servers that are supported for use in this manner.

SASŪ Data Surveyor for Clickstream Data Mid-Tier requires the installation of Apache HTTP Server. Apache HTTP Server requirements for use with SAS Data Surveyor for Clickstream Data Mid-tier can be found in the install center.

    WebDAV Servers

For specific information regarding SAS®Products/Solutions and WebDAV support, please review the installation instructions for the SAS®Product or Solution you are installing.
