SAS/ACCESS®

Providing data access to more of your data sources so you can make better decisions faster. These interfaces are out-of-the-box solutions that provide enterprise data access and integration between SAS and third-party databases. SAS/ACCESS interfaces enable your SAS solutions to read, write, and update data no matter what native databases or platforms you use.

Highlights of Enhancements for SAS/ACCESS for Relational Databases

Release notes:

  • NEW! In SAS Viya 3.4, interfaces have been added for JDBC and Spark. Also in SAS Viya 3.4, data connectors were added for JDBC, MySQL, Spark, and Vertica. Data connectors enable you to transfer data directly between your data source and SAS Viya.
  • In SAS Viya 3.3, data connectors were added for the DB2 under UNIX and PC Hosts, Impala, Microsoft SQL Server, ODBC, Oracle, SAP HANA, and Teradata interfaces. In the same release, integration was added between the Greenplum, Netezza, MySQL, and SAP ASE interfaces and SAS Viya.
  • In SAS Viya 3.2, integration was added between the Hadoop interface and SAS Viya.
  • In the April 2016 release of SAS/ACCESS, support was added for the Amazon Redshift interface. Also in this release, support was added for Netezza on the 64-bit Solaris platform.
  • In the SAS 9.4M4 release, the name of the Sybase interface changed to SAP ASE. In the same release, the name of the Sybase IQ interface changed to SAP IQ.
  • In the SAS 9.4M3 release, support was added for the HAWQ interface. In the same release, The Microsoft SQL Server interface added support on the 32-bit and 64-bit Microsoft Windows platforms.
  • In the July 2013 release of SAS/ACCESS, support was added for the SAP HANA interface.
  • In the SAS 9.4M2 release, support was added for the Impala interface.
  • In the SAS 9.4 release, support was added for the Vertica interface.

Highlights of Enhancements to SAS/ACCESS to the PI System

  • The February 2016 release of SAS/ACCESS Interface to the PI System included support for the Asset Framework and event frames.
  • Beginning in SAS 9.4M2, SAS/ACCESS supports access to the Data Archive in the PI System. The PI System is a repository for time series data. The data is collected from sensors that are attached to various types of monitoring and analysis equipment.

For more information, see SAS/ACCESS Interface to the PI System.

Enhancements to SAS/ACCESS 9.4 Interface to PC Files

  • New! SAS Viya 3.4 release:
    • Stata 15 is supported for >32,787 variables, >2B rows (on import only), and UTF-8 encoding.
    • In SAS Viya 3.4 and earlier, the following functionality is not included: SAS PC File Server, Import and Export Wizards, EFI, Microsoft Access Database files, Lotus files, EXCEL, ACCESS, and PCFILES LIBNAME engines. These components are supported in SAS 9.4M5 client for SAS Viya.
  • SAS 9.4M5 release:
    • You can import data to CAS tables with PROC IMPORT and the CAS LIBNAME engine. PROC EXPORT can store VARCHARs in SPSS, Stata, JMP, and Excel XLSX files.
    • In the IMPORT procedure, the specification DBMS=XLSX now supports storing currency values using the NLMNY format, which formats the value according to the locale.
  • SAS Viya 3.3 release:
    • Integration has been added between SAS/ACCESS Interface to PC Files and SAS Data Connector to PC Files.
  • SAS 9.4M4 release:
    • The SAS/ACCESS 9.4 release has a number of enhancements to support Microsoft Excel XLSX files. For example, you can add a Microsoft Excel XLSX worksheet to an existing workbook, and you can update an existing worksheet in a workbook.
    • SAS/ACCESS 9.4 supports creating new XLSX output files when using the EXPORT procedure with DBMS=EXCELCS or when using the PCFILES LIBNAME engine. Creating files with an XLSM extension is no longer supported with PROC EXPORT DBMS=EXCELCS or the PCFILES LIBNAME engine.
    • You can export Excel XLSX files directly to UNIX. In this release, you can specify DBMS=XLSX to read and write to Excel workbooks under UNIX and Microsoft Windows directly without needing to access the PC Files Server.
    • Certain statements used with the IMPORT and EXPORT procedures have been updated: RANGE=, SHEET=, GETNAMES=, GUESSINGROWS=. How RANGE= and SHEET= handle special characters in names has changed in Microsoft Excel XLSX files.
    • Starting in SAS/ACCESS 9.4, when you import a Stata file, SAS can read multiple Stata missing values and map them to multiple SAS special missing values, .a-.z or as a single dot (.), for up to 27 missing values.
    • Because you can use the Base SAS IMPORT and EXPORT procedures on JMP files without a SAS/ACCESS license, the SAS/ACCESS 9.4 changes for JMP files apply to SAS 9.4 as well.
  • SAS 9.4M2 release:
