Use the
SAP R/3 Register Tables wizard in SAS Data Integration Studio to access
data in your SAP R/3 System. You can use it to browse SAP R/3 table
metadata, view SAP R/3 table data, and either extract SAP R/3 table
metadata or create a job that can be used to extract SAP R/3 hierarchy
or group metadata to SAS data sets.
After
you use the
Extract
from R/3 wizard you can use the SAP R/3 Register Tables
wizard to perform the following tasks:

Select which data sources you want
to use in SAS Data Integration Studio.

Write metadata about those data
sources to your metadata repository.
The alternative
to extracting metadata is to use the SAP R/3 Register Tables wizard
to dynamically access your SAP R/3 System. In this case, you can view
metadata for a subset of SAP R/3 tables, or create a
job to extract metadata from SAP R/3 hierarchies or groups at a later
time.
Note: Using metadata
that was previously extracted to SAS data sets improves performance
and enables you to perform text-based searches on the table metadata
that has been extracted.
By providing
view access to the SAP R/3 metadata, the SAP R/3 Register Tables wizard
enables you to know more about your SAP R/3 data, to better access
the data that is stored in SAP R/3 tables and columns, and to use
the analytical power of SAS Data Integration Studio to further analyze
your SAP R/3 data.
