SAS® 9.3 Support for Additional Software Products

This page contains the minimum version requirements for additional third-party software products that can be used with SAS 9.3. It is possible to use updated versions of the third-party software listed below. See SAS® Third-Party Software Requirements - Baseline and Higher Support for more details.

Eclipse Development Environments

The following table identifies Eclipse Development Environments that are required for SAS® AppDev Studio™ Eclipse plug-ins.

Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers bundle

This bundle contains tools for Java developers creating Java EE and Web applications, including a Java IDE, tools for Java EE and JSF, Mylyn and others.

Note: Java Development Kit 1.6.0_24 or greater is required.

ESRI ArcGIS

Certain SASŪ 9.3 products require the installation of ESRI ArcGIS components.

Java Access Bridge

Oracle provides Java Access Bridge technology in order to make certain applications visible to screen readers and other assistive technologies for people with disabilities. SAS® 9.3 ships with a version of the Java Access Bridge that can be configured on 32-bit Windows platforms and used with SAS Java clients and certain Java applications. The Java Access Bridge components are located in the third_party directory that resides in the SAS Software Depot. For additional details, follow the installation instructions below that are provided by Oracle.

Platform Suite for SAS®

Certain SAS® 9.3 products require the installation of the Platform Suite for SAS when they are used with SAS scheduling or SAS® Grid Manager.

Python

Certain SAS® 9.3 applications require the use of Python software.

All Windows and UNIX platforms supported by SAS 9.3. 2.6 Python Software Foundation Home Page SAS Information Retrieval Studio 1.4 (released as a part of SAS® Visual Analytics 5.1) requires Python 2.6 to 2.x for deployment.

WebDAV Servers

WebDAV functionality is provided to the SAS Web applications and solutions in SAS® 9.3 by the SAS® Content Server. The third-party WebDAV servers that were supported for SAS 9.1.3, Xythos WFS, and Apache HTTP Server are not supported for SAS 9.3.

X11 Servers

The SAS® Download Manager and the SAS® Deployment Wizard provide a windowing interface that requires an X11 server in UNIX and z/OS environments. However, starting with SAS 9.3 Revision 930_12W19, a new feature called console mode enables you to use the SAS Download Manager and the SAS Deployment Wizard in a text-based terminal window without an X11 server.

Note: When you deploy SAS® Data Integration Server or SAS® IT Resource Management under UNIX or z/OS, you must have a virtual frame buffer such as Xvfb running on the target host if you are using console mode.

For z/OS, additional details are provided in your installation instructions. For all other operating environments, see the SAS® Deployment Wizard and SAS® Deployment Manager 9:3 User's Guide.

All SAS 9.3 Supported Platforms Xming If you are using a Java 7 JRE we recommend you use Cygwin instead of Xming for reasons discussed in SAS Note 49296

If you use Xming to connect to a z/OS host, you must set the host name of your z/OS system in the X0.hosts file in the Xming install directory, and then start Xming before starting either esdclient.zos or setup.rexx on z/OS.
