Using the Search Results Panel

Overview: Using the Search Results Panel

The search results panel appears to the right of the search criteria after you perform a search.
To identify the types of content that were found, look at the icons in the Type column. For an explanation of the icons, see What the Portal Contains.
On the search results panel, you can perform the tasks described in the following topics:

Display Additional Pages of Search Results

If more than one page of search results was found, use these icons to view additional results:
next page down arrow
display the next page of results
last page down arrow
jump to the last page of results
previous page up arrow
display the previous page of results
first page up arrow
jump to the first page of results
Note: If you want to bookmark, edit, or delete items that reside on multiple results pages, you must make your changes on only one results page at a time. Any selections on other pages are ignored.

Display an Item in the Search Results

Click an item's name in the Name column to display the content item in the portal. After the item is displayed, you can:
  • Click Bookmark on the toolbar to place an entry for the item in your Bookmarks portlet.
  • Click E-mail on the toolbar to e-mail the item's URL address.
  • Click Publish, if available on the toolbar, to publish the content to a publication channel or a WebDAV repository.
  • Click Search in the banner to return to the search results panel.
  • Click Portal Page in the banner to return to your Home page.
    Note: For best results, use the links in the banner instead of the browser's Back button to return to a page when you are in the portal.

Bookmark One or More Items in the Search Results

To bookmark a single item, follow these steps:
  1. Click the action menu action menu icon in the first column next to the item.
  2. Select Bookmark.
    The bookmark icon Bookmark icon appears in the second column, and the item is added to your Bookmarks Portlet.
To bookmark multiple items, follow these steps:
  1. Select the check box next to each item that you want to bookmark. (If you want to bookmark all items, select the check box in the heading of the first column.)
  2. Click the action menu action menu icon in the heading of the first column, and select Bookmark.
    The bookmark icon Bookmark icon appears next to each of the selected items. These items are added to your Bookmarks Portlet.

Edit One of the Items in the Search Results

From the search results, you can edit the properties of pages and portlets that you created. You can also edit links, applications, and syndication channels that you created. If you are designated as a group content administrator, then you can edit any of these items that have been shared with the respective group.
To edit a link, a syndication channel, an application, the properties of a page, or the properties of a portlet, follow these steps:
  1. Click the action menu action menu in the first column next to the item, and select Edit.
    Note: If Edit does not appear as a menu selection, this means you are not authorized to edit the item.
  2. When you are finished, click OK to return to the search results.

Delete One or More Items in the Search Results

From the search results, you can delete pages and portlets that you created. You can also delete links, applications, and syndication channels that you created. If you are designated as a group content administrator, then you can delete any of these items that have been shared with the respective group. When you delete these items, they are removed from the personal portals of all users in the group.
Note: When you delete an item, it is deleted permanently from the portal environment.
To permanently delete one or more pages, portlets, links, or syndication channels, follow these steps:
  1. If you want to delete just one item, click the action menu action menu in the first column next to the item, and select Delete.
    Note: If Delete does not appear as a menu selection, this means you are not authorized to delete the item.
  2. If you want to delete multiple items, follow these steps:
    1. Select the check box next to each item that you want to delete. (If you want to delete all items, select the check box in the heading of the first column.)
    2. Click the action menu action menu in the heading of the first column, and select Delete.
  3. On the Confirm Deletion(s) page, answer the following prompts:
    The following item(s) were selected for deletion.
    In the box below the prompt, review the list to confirm that you want to permanently delete all of the listed items.
    If you do not want to permanently delete all of the listed items, click Cancel to return to the search results page.
    Delete items below that are contained in collection portlets selected for deletion.
    This prompt appears if you are deleting one or more collection portlets, and if the portlets contain one or more content items that you are authorized to delete. These content items are listed in the box below the prompt.
    The list includes content items that you created. If you are a group content administrator, then the list also includes content items that have been shared with your group.
    If you want to permanently delete all of the items that appear on the list, then click the check box. If you want these items to remain in the portal repository, then leave the check box blank. If you want to delete only some of the items, then leave the check box blank and use the search tool to find and delete those items.
    Delete portlets below that are contained in pages selected for deletion.
    This prompt appears if you are deleting one or more pages, and if the pages contain one or more portlets that you are authorized to delete. These portlets are listed in the box below the prompt.
    The list includes portlets that you created. If you are a group content administrator, then the list also includes portlets that have been shared with your group.
    If you want to permanently delete all of the portlets that appear on the list, then click the check box. If you want these items to remain in the portal repository, then leave the check box blank. If you want to delete only some of the portlets, then leave the check box blank and use the search tool to find and delete those portlets.
  4. After you have confirmed your deletions and clicked the appropriate check boxes, click OK.
    The search results are displayed. A message at the top of the page indicates the number of items that were deleted.

You can perform another search by editing the search criteria in the left part of the screen and then clicking Search.
