Installation Note 49311: Installing SAS® 9.3 (TS1M2) Foundation to use Java 7 in z/OS environments

This note assumes that you have read and are familiar with SAS Note 49296: "Using Java 7 with SAS® 9.3 TS1M2."


SAS 9.3 TS1M2 supports Java 7 in the z/OS operating environment. To be able to use Java 7, you need to configure your SAS installation to include Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 7.

This SAS Note guides you through the configuration process.

Important: Before starting this process, read through the entire note so that you are aware of all preliminary requirements and potential issues as well as optional ways to accomplish these tasks.

Requirements

  1. Your SAS installation must be SAS 9.3 TS1M2.

    SAS® 9.2 and earlier releases of SAS 9.3 are not supported.


  2. Your host must meet at least the minimum system requirements.

Part I: Install Java JRE 7 31-Bit

  1. Download and install 31-bit SDK for z/OS. The Java version must be at least 1.7.0 build date 20120901 (SR2) (31-bit).


  2. Links to vendor sites are provided on our third-party page, SAS® 9.3 Support for Java Runtime Environments, for your convenience.

Part II: Install Your SAS Order


  1. When you reach the "Select Java Runtime Environment" step, do not accept the default option to use the SAS supplied JRE. Instead, choose Select an Existing Java Runtime Environment and specify the location of your version 7 JRE.

Part III: Validate Your Installation

  1. After all installation is complete, validate your installation: Submit the VALID job in the high-level-qualifier.INSTALL.CNTL data set.


  2. Ensure that all steps complete with a return code of 0(zero).

Part IV: Download and Apply Hot Fixes

  1. Follow the steps in the SAS Hot Fix Analysis, Download and Deployment Tool's Usage Guide to download and apply hot fixes.


  2. Ensure that the Java 7 hot fixes listed in the links in SAS Note 49296: "Using Java 7 with SAS® 9.3 TS1M2" are included, as appropriate, for the products in your order.
