System Requirements
SAS® Real-Time Decision Manager 6.5 (Run-Time Server)

Overview

SAS Real-Time Decision Manager combines decision logic with analytics to deliver deep insights from data, including customer lifetime value, propensity, attrition, and credit risk modeling. SAS Real-Time Decision Manager helps you make high-quality decisions in high-volume environments.

SAS Real-Time Decision Manager Run-Time Server integrates with various systems to operationalize the decisions. The Run-Time Server is used with the SAS Real-Time Decision Manager Design Server, which is used to create the decisions and deploy them to the Run-Time Servers. For more information, see the separate System Requirements document for the Design Server.

Server-Tier Requirements

Note: Support Status: Only SAS 9.4 TS1M5 and later are supported on Windows Server 2016.

To keep pace with changes to third-party technologies, SAS has adopted a general policy of supporting one or more baseline major versions and subsequent minor updates for each officially supported operating system. For example, if the baseline for SAS x is Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.1, SAS x will also support Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.7 under this policy.

The full SAS Support policy that applies to third-party software can be found at https://support.sas.com/en/documentation/third-party-software-reference/baseline-and-higher.html. As part of this policy, SAS strongly encourages customers to install the latest operating-system service packs.

SAS Real-Time Decision Manager Run-Time SAS Data Integration Server

Select a platform:

The SAS Real-Time Decision Manager Run-Time SAS Data Integration Server includes two Standard SAS/ACCESS engines of choice for your platform. It also includes three SAS Metadata Bridges of choice. The Metadata Bridge for General Industry Standards is included automatically.

The SAS Data Integration Server is optional.

SAS Federation Server

Select a platform:

SAS Federation Server includes a driver of choice for one of the following databases:

  • Greenplum
  • Netezza
  • Teradata

DB2 and PostgreSQL are Federation Server drivers that are automatically included in SAS Real-Time Decision Manager, along with the Oracle driver.

SAS Federation Server includes a SAS Quality Knowledge Base Locale of choice, the same as selected for SAS Federation Server. If not specified, by default, SAS Quality Knowledge Base Locale for English (USA) will be included.

SAS Real-Time Decision Manager Run-Time Metadata Server

Select a platform:

SAS makes the following recommendations for SAS Metadata Server deployments:

  • a 64-bit host system
  • a dedicated machine to simplify tuning, management, and diagnostics
  • multi-core server hardware because SAS Metadata Server is multi-threaded
  • four or more cores for production deployments

The disk I/O performance of any server-class system should be sufficient. Memory requirements are highly dependent on the product mix and usage, but 8 GB of RAM are sufficient for most large deployments. For many deployments, 4 GB of RAM are sufficient and should be considered a minimum, unless the specific deployment is tested and verified to require less memory.

Middle-Tier Requirements

Note: Support Status: Only SAS 9.4 TS1M5 and later are supported on Windows Server 2016.

SAS Real-Time Decision Manager has two types of middle tiers, the Operational Mid-Tier (for executing campaigns) and the Design Mid-Tier (for designing campaigns). Both middle tiers are J2EE applications that run within a J2EE application server.

This document provides requirements for the SAS Real-Time Decision Manager Operational server components. See the separate System Requirements document for information about SAS Real-Time Decision Manager Design Server requirements.

Specific Product Requirements

Databases

SAS Real-Time Decision Manager 6.5 can connect to various databases using SAS/ACCESS. The following list indicates database versions with which SAS Real-Time Decision Manager 6.5 is compatible:

  • Greenplum: DataDirect branded driver 7.1.2, Greenplum bulk loader 4.2
  • IBM DB2/UDB versions 10.1, 10.5, and 11.1
  • IBM Netezza versions 6.0, 6.1, and 7.0
  • Microsoft SQL Server versions 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2017 Enterprise Edition
  • Microsoft SQL Server versions 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2017 Standard Edition (no more than 10 million customer records)
  • Oracle versions 11g, 11.2, 12.1, and 12.2/18c
  • PostgreSQL versions 9.2, 9.3, and 9.4
  • PostgreSQL version 10.6, also, from SAS 9.4_TS1M4
  • Teradata versions 14.0, 14.1, 15.0, and 16.xx.

Notes:

Microsoft software Server Failover Cluster is not supported.

Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) for Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and PostgreSQL are supported by SAS Real-Time Decision Manager 6.5 Run-Time Server on Amazon Web Services.

The same versions of Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and PostgreSQL supported in physical deployments are supported on Amazon RDS.

If your installation includes Oracle Database 12c/18c, note that Oracle Multi-tenant architecture is not supported.

If your installation includes Oracle Database 12.2/18c, this version is only supported by SAS 9.4 TS1M4 (SAS 9.4M4) and later. Oracle 12.2/18c on Linux requires a hot fix. For more information, see the following SAS Note: http://support.sas.com/kb/60/895.html.

Connectivity to Oracle RAC is supported via connection strings containing one Oracle Single Client Access Name (SCAN) listener address. Support has the following limitations:

  • In the event of Oracle RAC node failure, SAS Real-Time Decision Manager will reestablish its connection pool through SCAN, enabling the SCAN listener to resolve connection requests to any RAC nodes that remain operational.
  • The following components are not supported:
    • Oracle Transparent Application Failover (TAF)
    • Oracle Fast Connection Failover (FCF)
  • Other options that require client application integration with Oracle Notification Service (ONS), or that require the registration of client callback routines with Oracle.

Teradata, Netezza, and Greenplum are massively parallel processing data storage technologies often deployed as enterprise data warehouses. All databases deployed in this manner may not have the performance necessary for certain high-throughput Real-Time Decision Manager usage scenarios. Consult with SAS Customer Intelligence Professional Services before positioning these databases with a customer. The SAS Real-Time Decision Manager Administrator's Guide provides further guidance on this matter.

If staging capabilities are utilized, treatments are now staged to the Customer Intelligence Common Data model.
