System Requirements
SAS® Forecast Analyst Workbench 5.4

Overview

SAS Forecast Analyst Workbench requires SAS® Demand Signal Repository.

SAS Forecast Analyst Workbench supports integration with SAS Grid Manager, which is optional but not included.

To keep pace with changes to third-party technologies, SAS has adopted a general policy of supporting one or more baseline major versions and subsequent minor updates for each officially supported operating system. For example, if the baseline for SAS x is Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.1, SAS x will also support Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.7 under this policy.

The full SAS Support policy that applies to third-party software can be found at https://support.sas.com/en/documentation/third-party-software-reference/baseline-and-higher.html. As part of this policy, SAS strongly encourages customers to install the latest operating-system service packs.

Server-Tier Requirements

SAS Forecast Analyst Workbench Server

Select a platform:

The following products are required by SAS Forecast Analyst Workbench Server and included with SAS Demand Signal Repository:

  • two standard SAS/ACCESS engines of choice
  • three SAS Metadata Bridges of choice
  • SAS Data Integration Server
  • SAS Enterprise BI Server

SAS Financial Management is required but separately licensed with SAS Collaborative Planning Workbench. SAS Forecast Analyst Workbench Server and SAS Financial Management must be installed on the same machine.

SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Server (Distributed or Non-Distributed LASR Mode)

Select a platform:

SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Server includes one standard SAS/ACCESS engine of choice. SAS recommends that you install SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Server on a separate machine from the solution software.

Inclusion of SAS Visual Analytics LASR Server

  • SAS Visual Analytics LASR Server, Non-distributed is included automatically if the deployment is for Non-distributed LASR. It is optional if deployment is for Distributed LASR.
  • SAS Visual Analytics LASR Server, Distributed is included automatically if the deployment is for Distributed LASR.

For Hadoop Support

Base SAS, SAS/ACCESS engines, and SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Server can be installed on the head node of the commodity hardware (symmetric) or on separate hardware (asymmetric). The Distributed LASR Base SAS components for SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting can therefore be installed on Windows for x64 while working with the Linux for x64 LASR grid.

SAS LASR Analytic Server (Distributed LASR Mode) on Linux for x64

SAS Products installed on this machine:
  • SAS High-Performance Deployment for Hadoop 3.0
  • SAS High-Performance Node Installation 3.91
  • SAS Plug-ins for Hadoop 1.02

Supported Environments:
  • Oracle Linux 6.1 (64-bit version) on the x64 chip family
  • Oracle Linux 7.1 (64-bit version) on the x64 chip family
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.1 (64-bit version) on the x64 chip family
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1 (64-bit version) on the x64 chip family
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP1 (64-bit version) on the x64 chip family
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 (64-bit version) on the x64 chip family

If you want to co-locate SAS software with Hadoop File System (HDFS), the maintenance release number of your SAS 9.4 software determines the requirements for your co-located Hadoop deployment:

  • For SAS 9.4 M4 and later, modify your supported Hadoop environment with files from SAS Plug-ins for Hadoop.
  • For SAS 9.4 M3 and earlier, modify your supported Hadoop environment with files from SAS High-Performance Deployment for Hadoop.

For information about supported Hadoop distributions, refer to https://support.sas.com/en/documentation/third-party-software-reference/9-4/support-for-hadoop.html. The plug-ins require additional configuration. For more information, see SAS High-Performance Analytics Infrastructure 3.5: Installation and Configuration Guide at http://support.sas.com/documentation/onlinedoc/hp-analytics-infrastructure/index.html.

SAS Metadata Server

Select a platform:

SAS makes the following recommendations for SAS Metadata Server deployments:

  • a 64-bit host system
  • a dedicated machine to simplify tuning, management, and diagnostics
  • multi-core server hardware because SAS Metadata Server is multi-threaded
  • four or more cores for production deployments

The disk I/O performance of any server-class system should be sufficient. Memory requirements are highly dependent on the product mix and usage, but 8 GB of RAM are sufficient for most large deployments. For many deployments, 4 GB of RAM are sufficient and should be considered a minimum, unless the specific deployment is tested and verified to require less memory.

SAS Data Servers

SAS Forecast Analyst Workbench contains the SAS data server named SAS Forecast Analyst Workbench Data Server Configuration, which requires additional configuration.

The size of the data server is large.

Note: When you configure your software, the size of each data server must be considered.

Before you install, update, or add products and solutions that result in the deployment of one or more SAS data servers to the same machine, kernel parameter changes for shared memory and semaphores are required. For details about configuration of small, medium, and large data servers, see the section titled Initial Configuration Recommendations in the "Tuning the PostgreSQL Data Server" section of SAS 9.4 Web Applications: Tuning for Performance and Scalability.

Middle-Tier Requirements

SAS Financial Management is required but separately licensed with SAS Collaborative Planning Workbench. If you have purchased a license of SAS Collaborative Planning Workbench, you must deploy the middle tier of SAS Financial Management and SAS Forecast Analyst Workbench on the same server.

SAS Forecast Analyst Workbench Mid-Tiers

Select a platform:

SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Mid-Tier (Distributed or Non-Distributed LASR)

Select a platform:

Web Application Servers

When you install your SAS solution software, SAS Deployment Manager installs and configures the required web application servers and web servers.

To install these servers, select one of the supported operating systems for the middle tier.

Note: These servers cannot be installed on the z/OS or 32-bit Windows platforms.

Client-Tier Requirements

SAS Forecast Analyst Workbench Client

Select a platform:

Note: Microsoft Windows 10 desktop operating system is also supported for SAS client software.

SAS Forecast Analyst Workbench Client requires some components that are included with the separately licensed, but required, component SAS Demand Signal Repository.

Web Browsers

SAS Forecast Analyst Workbench deploys SAS Common Components 9.0 for HTML, which has a separate set of supported web browsers. For a list of supported browsers and platforms associated with HTML5, refer to the system requirements for SAS Common Components 9.0 for HTML.

SAS Visual Analytics Apps

The SAS Visual Analytics Apps are supported on iOS and Android devices, and on PCs and tablets running Microsoft Windows 10. You can download the apps for free from the Apple App Store, Google Play, or the Microsoft Store.
