The SAS Decision Manager Server and the SAS Micro Analytic Services Mid-tier component must be installed on the same platform (such as Windows or Linux). However, SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting (both the Server and Mid-tier components) and the SAS Decision Manager Mid-tier can be installed on different platforms from SAS Decision Manager Server.
SAS Decision Manager is not available on 32-bit Windows operating systems.
Starting with SAS 9.4M8, the SAS Micro Analytic Service is not supported on Oracle Solaris operating systems. You cannot deploy rule sets or decisions to SAS Micro Analytic Service destinations on Solaris.
With SAS 9.4M8, the HP-UX operating system is not supported. Do not upgrade to SAS 9.4M8 if you want to run SAS Decision Manager on HP-UX.
The SAS Metadata Server, SAS Decision Manager Server, and SAS Model Manager Server can all be installed on the same machine or on separate machines.
SAS recommends installing SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Server on a separate machine.
SAS Decision Manager Server includes a SAS Data Integration Server component, which is available in other offerings. For information about the applicable system requirements, review the separate System Requirements document.
SAS Decision Manager Server includes a standard SAS/ACCESS engine of choice for transactional data. It also includes three SAS Metadata Bridges of choice, plus General Industry Standards, which is included automatically.
You must select one of the following components:
To support an additional database, include the appropriate SAS/ACCESS engine along with SAS Micro Analytic Services Driver in your order.
When SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting is installed on a separate server-tier machine, all servers that need to transfer data to the SAS LASR Analytic Server require either SAS LASR Analytic Server Access Tools or SAS/CONNECT.
SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Server includes a Standard SAS/ACCESS engine. The platform must match the one that you selected for the SAS Decision Manager SAS/ACCESS engine; all others are separately licensed.
Note: Both the Distributed Mode and Non-distributed Mode of SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting include a Non-distributed Mode SAS LASR Analytic Server.
However, only the Distributed Mode of SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting includes the Distributed Mode SAS LASR Analytic Server.
Use of a co-located Hadoop File System (HDFS) is optional, but it requires a supported Hadoop environment and SAS Plug-ins for Hadoop (which are included with your license). For information about supported Hadoop distributions, refer to https://support.sas.com/en/documentation/third-party-software-reference/9-4/support-for-hadoop.html. The plug-ins require additional configuration. For more information, see SAS High-Performance Analytics Infrastructure 3.5: Installation and Configuration Guide at http://support.sas.com/documentation/onlinedoc/hp-analytics-infrastructure/index.html.
SAS makes the following recommendations for SAS Metadata Server deployments:
The disk I/O performance of any server-class system should be sufficient. Memory requirements are highly dependent on the product mix and usage, but 8 GB of RAM are sufficient for most large deployments. For many deployments, 4 GB of RAM are sufficient and should be considered a minimum, unless the specific deployment is tested and verified to require less memory.
SAS Decision Manager contains a SAS data server, SAS Decision Manager Common Data Server, which requires additional configuration.
The size of the data server is small.
Note: When you configure your software, the size of each data server must be considered.
Before you install, update, or add products and solutions that result in the deployment of one or more SAS data servers to the same machine, kernel parameter changes for shared memory and semaphores are required. For details about configuration of small, medium, and large data servers, see the section titled Initial Configuration Recommendations in the "Tuning the PostgreSQL Data Server" section of SAS 9.4 Web Applications: Tuning for Performance and Scalability.
You must install SAS Micro Analytic Services REST API on the same platform (such as Windows or Linux) as the SAS Decision Manager Server. However, SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting (both the Server and Mid-tier components) and SAS Decision Manager Mid-tier can be installed on different platforms than SAS Decision Manager Server.
One SAS Micro Analytic Services Driver is included. The driver must match one of the SAS/ACCESS engines that you selected. You can add additional drivers for any of the following data sources:
SAS recommends deploying the SAS Visual Analytics and Reporting Mid-Tier Server on a separate machine from the SAS Decision Manager Server.
When you install your SAS solution software, SAS Deployment Manager installs and configures the required web application servers and web servers.
To install these servers, select one of the supported operating systems for the middle tier.
Note: These servers cannot be installed on the z/OS or 32-bit Windows platforms.
Base SAS is required for SAS Model Manager Report Registration Client, but is not included.
The SAS Visual Analytics Apps are supported on iOS and Android smartphones and tablets. Each app is written specifically for its operating system and provides native support for these devices so that you can view reports on your mobile device. You can download the apps for free from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
SAS recommends using the SAS Visual Analytics Apps for iOS or Android to view and interact with reports on mobile devices.
The list of web browsers that SAS supports is updated as new products are tested and approved. For the latest information, visit the SAS 9.4 Support for Web Browsers page at https://support.sas.com/en/documentation/third-party-software-reference/9-4/support-for-9-4-web-browsers.html.
