SAS Regular Price Optimization Server also includes two SAS/ACCESS engines of choice and three SAS Metadata Bridges of choice.

SAS Metadata Server on Linux for x64

SAS recommends that you deploy SAS Metadata Server on a 64-bit host system. The SAS Metadata Server is multi-threaded and multi-core server hardware (typically quad core or higher) is recommended. A dedicated machine for the SAS Metadata Server is recommended to simplify tuning, management, and diagnostics, but is not required. The disk I/O performance of any server-class system should be sufficient. Memory requirements are highly dependent on the product mix and usage, but 8GB of RAM is sufficient for most large deployments. 4GB of RAM is sufficient for many deployments and should be considered a minimum unless the specific deployment is tested and verified to require less memory.

Third-Party Software

Note: For more information about obtaining or installing third-party software, please see the SAS Merchandise Intelligence 5.2 Installation Guide.

Java Runtime Environment

JRE is required on the SAS Merchandise Intelligence Grid Server. The correct version of JRE is included with your installation.

Database Software

Oracle Database 11g Standard Edition is required.

Note: The correct JDBC drivers are included when you install Oracle.

Samba

Samba is required on the SAS Server machine. The required version of Samba is included in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5.

Server Tier Hardware

Machines Supported

SAS Regular Price Optimization 5.2 requires a 64-bit machine capable of running Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.5 or higher: x64 chip family (x86-64)

Memory Requirements

Database tier: 6 GB of memory per core (minimum); 8 GB of memory per core recommended

SAS back-end server tier: 6 GB of memory per core (minimum); 12 GB of memory per core recommended

Storage Requirements

50 MB per second per IO thread (minimum)

The number of IO threads depends on several factors, for example, the size of the data, total number of cores, and the batch window. (This is usually determined during the hardware sizing process.)

Operating Systems

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5 or higher.


Middle Tier Requirements

SAS Regular Price Optimization Mid-Tiers on Linux for x64

SAS Products installed to this machine:
  • SAS Merchandise Intelligence Mid-Tier 5.21
  • SAS Merchandise Intelligence Workbench Server 5.21
  • SAS Web Infrastructure Platform 9.3
  • SAS Web Report Studio 4.31

Supported Environments:
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (64-bit version) on the x64 chip family

JBoss Web Application Server

The middle tier runs within a JBoss Web application server. JBoss Application Server 4.2.3 GA is supported. If you use JBoss Application Server 4.2.3. GA, no additional configuration is required.

However, if you use one of the other supported versions (in particular, if you run with the Enterprise Application Platform version of JBoss), you might need to perform additional configuration steps.

JDK Third Party Software

JDK is required on the SAS Merchandise Intelligence Mid-Tier server. The minimum version requirements of Java Development Kits (JDK) for use with SAS 9.3 can be found at the following link:

Note: JDK is used to run the middle tier. However, JRE is used to run the client and other java-based applications. The correct versions of JRE and JDK are included with your installation.

Middle Tier Hardware

The Middle Tier supports the same machine and uses the same operating system as the Server Tier.

Memory Requirements

4 GB of memory per core

Java Runtime Environment

JRE is required on the SAS Merchandise Intelligence client. The correct version of JRE is included with your installation.

Other Third Party Software

To use advanced features of the SAS Merchandise Intelligence Client and SAS Merchandise Solutions Configuration Workbench, the following applications must be installed:

Adobe Reader

Adobe Reader 6 or later is required so users can export views, print PDFs, and read solution documentation.

Microsoft Internet Explorer

A Web browser is required on each machine that will access the SAS documentation Web site and the SAS Technical Support Web site.

Supported Versions

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 7
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 (in Compatibility View mode)

Microsoft Office Excel

Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 is required so users can export certain lists or tables to Excel (where the Export to Excel feature is available) and view exported views.

Client Tier Hardware

The following are the minimum requirements for the Client Tier:

Processor

A 32-bit or 64-bit Intel or AMD machine is required, depending on the operating system.

Processor Speed

The minimum processor speed required depends on the operating system. For example:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit): 1.4 GHz
  • Windows 7 (64-bit): 1 GHz

Minimum RAM

The minimum RAM required depends on the operating system. For example:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit): 1 GB
  • Windows 7 (64-bit): 2 GB

Recommended RAM

The recommended RAM depends on the operating system. For example:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit): 2 GB
  • Windows 7 (64-bit): 3 GB

Note: Adding more RAM will improve performance.

Minimum Available Disk Space

  • Client: 312 MB
  • Workbench: 315 MB
  • Plug-in for SMC: 100 MB

Minimum Display Resolution Supported

  • Client: 1280 x 1024
  • Workbench: 1280 x 1024
  • Plug-in for SMC: 1024 X 768
