To keep pace with changes to third-party technologies, SAS has adopted a general policy of supporting one or more baseline major versions and subsequent minor updates for each officially supported operating system. As part of this policy, SAS strongly encourages customers to install the latest operating-system service packs. Only the supported baseline major versions are listed in this document.
The full SAS Support policy governing third-party software can be found at https://support.sas.com/en/documentation/third-party-software-reference/baseline-and-higher.html.
SAS Federation Server includes the following drivers for supported databases:
Note: SAS Federation Server Driver for SPD Server is available as a Federation Server 4.2 hot fix. You can find more information and a link to download the hot fix here: https://support.sas.com/kb/59/499.html
SAS Federation Server includes locales for SAS Quality Knowledge Base. SAS Federation Server also includes SAS Threaded Kernel Driver Extension.
Note: Use of the SAS Federation Server Driver for SAP with the NetWeaver RFC library requires NetWeaver RFC SDK 7.20, patch level 36 (or later). For more information, see the Post-Installation Instructions for SAS/ACCESS Interface to R/3: http://support.sas.com/documentation/installcenter/en/ikr3cg/72918/PDF/default/config.pdf.
SAS makes the following recommendations for SAS Metadata Server deployments:
The disk I/O performance of any server-class system should be sufficient. Memory requirements are highly dependent on the product mix and usage, but 8 GB of RAM are sufficient for most large deployments. For many deployments, 4 GB of RAM are sufficient and should be considered a minimum, unless the specific deployment is tested and verified to require less memory.
SAS Federation Server contains the following SAS data server that requires additional configuration:
The size of this data server is medium.
Note: When you configure your software, the size of each data server must be considered.
Before you install, update, or add products and solutions that result in the deployment of one or more SAS data servers to the same machine, kernel parameter changes for shared memory and semaphores are required. For details about configuration of small, medium, and large data servers, see the section titled Initial Configuration Recommendations in the "Tuning the PostgreSQL Data Server" section of SAS 9.4 Web Applications: Tuning for Performance and Scalability.
SAS Federation Server Client contains required ODBC and JDBC drivers. Any machine that needs to connect to SAS Federation Server requires these drivers.
Both the 32-bit and 64-bit ODBC drivers for Windows are included with a SAS Federation Server (64-bit) software order and are delivered and installed with the SAS Federation Server Client. The ODBC driver is valid for UNIX and Windows platforms. However, the SAS Federation Server JDBC driver runs only on 64-bit Windows.
