Migrating to SAS 9.4

If you are migrating from a previous release of SAS, you will want to know what the new features and enhancements are in SAS 9.4. You will also want to know how changes in SAS 9.4 might impact your site. To get this information, see SAS 9.4 Guide to Software Updates.

This page will help you identify the options you should consider ï¿½ whether you are running a metadata-based deployment or a Base SAS deployment. Updating an Existing SAS 9.4 Deployment

After your initial installation of SAS 9.4, you have several opportunities to update your SAS software. These updates could include applying a maintenance release to SAS, applying a product-specific maintenance release, or upgrading to a new product release. Depending on your current version of software, one or more of the software updates might apply. Regardless of which scenarios apply, the process for applying the updates is the same and occurs at the same time.

Here are the types of updates that you can apply to an existing SAS 9.4 deployment:

Applying a SAS maintenance release

Currently, SAS 9.4M8 is available. For more information about this maintenance release, see the Maintenance Release Announcement for SAS 9.4.

Applying a product-specific maintenance release platform

In addition to the SAS platform maintenance releases, some products ship their own maintenance release.

Product updates can occur when you apply a SAS maintenance release or a product-specific maintenance release, or when you upgrade to a new product release. The list of product upgrades depends on what you are currently running at your site and the date of your software order. To determine the complete list of product updates for your site, see Product Details and Requirements in the SAS 9.4 Guide to Software Updates. For the upgrade instructions for a specific product, see the chapter for that product.

Adding Software to a SAS 9.4 Deployment

Your software order might include software that you previously have not licensed at your site. You can determine what software is in your order by reviewing the Software Order E-mail or the SAS Order Information file.

Before adding any new software to an existing SAS 9.4 deployment, you must update the current software at your site. After these software updates are complete, you can add the new software. Note: SAS 9.4 shipped in July 2013 and is the most current SAS release. For more information, see What's New in SAS 9.4 and the SAS 9.4 Guide to Software Updates.

Migrating to SAS 9.3

If you are migrating from SAS 9.1.3 or SAS 9.2, you will want to know what the new features and enhancements are in SAS 9.3. You will also want to know how changes in SAS 9.3 might impact your site. To get this information, see the SAS 9.3 Guide to Software Updates [PDF].

Updating an Existing SAS 9.3 Deployment

After your initial installation of SAS 9.3, you have several opportunities to update your SAS software. These updates could include applying a maintenance release to SAS, applying a product-specific maintenance release, or upgrading to a new product release. Depending on your current version of software, one or more of the software updates might apply. Regardless of which scenarios apply, the process for applying the updates is the same and occurs at the same time.

Here are the types of updates that you can apply to an existing SAS 9.3 deployment:

Applying a SAS maintenance release: Currently, the second maintenance release for SAS 9.3 is available. For more information about this maintenance release, see the Maintenance Release Announcement for SAS 9.3.
Applying a product-specific maintenance release: In addition to the SAS maintenance releases, some products ship their own maintenance release.
Upgrading to a new product release: Examples of new product releases that run on SAS 9.3 include SAS Data Integration Studio 4.5, SAS Enterprise Miner 12.1, and SAS Text Miner 12.1.

Overview

After your initial installation of SAS 9.2, you have several opportunities to update your SAS 9.2 software. These updates to your existing software could include applying a maintenance release to SAS, applying a product-specific maintenance release, or upgrading to a new product release.

You can also add new software to your existing SAS deployment. New software includes any software that you have not installed. This software could have been licensed in a previous order or in your current order.

Review the following information to determine what documentation is appropriate for your site.

Note: This documentation is for customers who are currently running SAS 9.2. If you are upgrading from SAS 9.1.3 to SAS 9.2, see Special Considerations for Customers Upgrading to SAS 9.2.

Updating an Existing SAS 9.2 Deployment

You can make several types of updates to an existing SAS 9.2 deployment. Depending on your current version of software, one or more of the software updates might apply. Regardless of the type of update, the process for applying these software updates is the same. If your deployment requires several types of updates, then all of the updates occur at the same time.

Here are the types of updates that you can apply to an existing SAS 9.2 deployment:

Applying a SAS maintenance release: Currently, the third maintenance release for SAS 9.2 is available. For more information about this maintenance release, see the Maintenance Release Announcement for SAS 9.2. Applying a product-specific maintenance release: In addition to the SAS maintenance releases, some products have shipped their own maintenance release. For example, currently maintenance releases are available for SAS OpRisk VaR and SAS Text Miner 4.1. Upgrading to a new product release: Recently, SAS shipped SAS Enterprise Guide 4.3, SAS Enterprise Miner 6.2, and SAS Model Manager 2.3. Adding Software

Before adding any new software that is not already installed in your existing SAS 9.2 deployment, you must update the current software at your site. These updates might include applying a maintenance release, upgrading to a new product release, or both.
