Maintenance Release Announcement for SAS 9.2

Overview

The second maintenance release for SAS 9.2 updates foundation, platform, analytics, and tools and clients. These updates address software defects as well as new features and administrative enhancements. This maintenance release expands the list of supported Web application servers, releases of Java, and operating system versions. All customers who have deployed SAS 9.2 are encouraged to install this maintenance release. The maintenance release must be requested by a SAS Installation Representative at your site.

Highlights

The second maintenance release for SAS 9.2 includes several new features:

  • a new SAS utility, ViewRegistry, is available. For more information, see SAS Note 35968: "Finding out what product releases and hot fixes are installed on your system."
  • Teradata in-database support for SAS procedures.
  • enhanced security within the SAS OLAP Server.
  • support for Java 6, Firefox 3, Windows Server 2008 (for 32-bit, x64, and Itanium chip architectures), WebLogic 10 & 10gr3, and SuSE SLES 11.

The following list of updated documents will help you understand the changes made to these products in our maintenance releases.

  • Maintenance Planning [PDF]
    The Maintenance Planning document describes the changes in a maintenance release that might affect your site. This document includes the following general information:
    • requirements that you need to know before installing a maintenance release
    • instructions about how to install a maintenance release and how you can verify that a maintenance release installed correctly
    • configuration steps that you might need to perform after the installation is complete
    • description of how the maintenance release affects several SAS products and a list of any required post-configuration steps
    The Maintenance Planning document also provides more application-specific details about the tasks that you are required to perform to ensure that your programs and SAS applications work correctly after installing the maintenance release.
     
  • What's New in SAS 9.2
    The What's New document combines the What's New files for each product that was updated in SAS 9.2 or that was in a maintenance release after SAS 9.2.
     
  • Issues Addressed
    The Issues Addressed Web site for SAS 9.2 maintenance releases is compiled by SAS Technical Support and lists the SAS Notes that were addressed in a maintenance release.
Where do I go from here?
  • Getting Maintenance
    Maintenance is available via electronic or physical media. You can add any updates to your existing SAS 9.2 software depot or you can create a new depot with a full software order. Use the self-service application for maintenance to identify orders at your site for which maintenance is available. Only a SAS Installation Representatives can request maintenance.

    If you have not yet deployed 9.2, then you should contact your SAS account executive. If you need help identifying your account executive but would like to start the request process now, you can call SAS directly at 1-800-727-0025, option 2. All current maintenance will be included with the initial delivery of 9.2.

    The Maintenance Configuration chapter in Maintenance Planning for SAS 9.2 describes all of the tasks that you are required to perform after the SAS Deployment Wizard update.
