How do I use the log file?

Each time a step is executed in a SAS program, SAS generates a log file. The SAS log collects messages about the processing of SAS programs and any errors that might occur. If your program contains an error, the log opens automatically when you run the program.

Log with error expanded and selected

You can expand the Errors, Warnings, and Notes sections to view the messages. Click a message to see where in the log it occurs.
