Join SAS data to an ArcMap layer

You can join a SAS data set to an existing ArcMap data set by using the common values in corresponding fields. When you join the attributes from a SAS data set to an ArcMap data set, a new data set is created that contains the joined data.

To join a SAS data set to an ArcMap layer:

  1. Select a layer in ArcMap and right-click.
  2. Select Joins and Relates Join from the pop-up menu.
  3. Select Join attributes from a table.
  4. Choose a field from the ArcGIS layer for the join.
  5. If you previously added the SAS data set that you want to join, then select that data set from the drop-down list.
    To add a new SAS data set:
    1. Click the Browse button Browse.
    2. Select the OLE database connection that contains the data set that you want to add.
      Note: If you have not created an OLE database connection, then you must first add an OLE database connection.
    3. Select the SAS data set that you want to join.
    4. Click Add to add the data set.
  6. Select the variable in the SAS data set that corresponds to field that you selected in step 4.
  7. Click OK.

To view the results of the join:

  1. Right-click the layer that you joined to a SAS data set.
  2. Select Open Attribute Table from the pop-up menu.
