SAS Institute. The Power to Know

Join SAS data to an ArcMap layer

You can join a SAS data set to an existing ArcMap data set by using the common values in corresponding fields. When you join the attributes from a SAS data set to an ArcMap data set, a new data set is created that contains the joined data.

To join a SAS data set to an ArcMap layer:

  1. Select a layer in ArcMap and right-click.
  2. Select Joins and Relates Join from the pop-up menu.
  3. Select Join attributes from a table.
  4. Choose a field from the ArcGIS layer for the join.
  5. Click the Database Connections button on the Join Data window.
  6. Select OLE DB Connection.odc from the drop-down list of sources.
Note: If you don't see OLE DB Connection.odc, you must first add an OLE database connection.
  7. Select the SAS data set to be added.
  8. Click Add.
  9. Select the corresponding field from the SAS data set for the join.
  10. Click OK.

To view the results of the join:

  1. Select and right-click the same layer (to which the SAS data set was joined).
  2. Select Open Attibute Table from the pop-up menu.
