Installation Note 35426: Logs that can be used to troubleshoot SAS® 9.2 (TS2M0) installations

DetailsAboutRate It

When you install SAS 9.2 (TS2M0), logs are created in different locations during the process. Send these logs to SAS Technical Support to help troubleshoot the installation if you encounter problems. The most important logs files are bootstrap.log, sdwprefs.txt, and SDW.log.

Important note: With SAS 9.2 (TS2M3) rev 10w20 and later, the sdm.log is created when you run the SAS Deployment Manager.

The following table shows where you can find the relevant log files.

Platform Location Files
Windows XP %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\SAS\SASDeploymentWizard\9.2 BOOTSTRAP.log SDWPREFS.txt SDW.log SDM.log
Windows Vista/Windows 7/Windows 2008 Server %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\SAS\SASDeploymentWizard\9.2 BOOTSTRAP.log SDWPREFS.txt SDW.log SDM.log
UNIX and z/OS $HOME/.SASAppData/SASDeploymentWizard/9.2 SDW.log deploywiz.log SDM.log

  • For SAS 9.2 (TS2M0), several logs are created in the SAS InstallMisc directory:

    SASHOME\InstallMisc\InstallLogs\9.2

    For example: C:\Program Files\SAS\InstallMisc\InstallLogs\9.2\sasinstall_date-installed_time-installed.log.

    Here are some of the logs that are stored in this directory:

    • activexgraph_silentsetup.log
    • cleanwork_silentsetup.log
    • deskdata.log
    • eeditor_silentsetup.log
    • eguide_silent.log
    • esribridge_date_time.log
    • fontreg.log
    • iculib_silentsetup.log
    • itclient_silentsetup.log
    • msofficeint_date_time.log
    • nvworkshop_silent.log
    • sasinstall_site-number_order-number.log
    • sasoledb_silentsetup.log
    • xmladotnet_silent.log

    Note: The contents of sasinstall_date-installed_time-installed.log and the sassetup.log file are almost the same.

  • For SAS 9.2 (TS2M0 and later), several files are created in the SASDeploymentWizard directory:

    C:\Documents and Settings\sas\Local Settings\Application Data\SAS\SASDeploymentWizard\9.2

    Here are some of the files that are stored in this directory:

    • sdwprefs.txt: This file contains the choices or preferences that you used during the installation (for example, where the SASHOME directory resides). Here is an example of what it might contain:

    • Bootstrap.log: Bootstrap returns and displays formatted and unformatted operating system level information and error messages. Bootstrap is an application that performs the invocation of the SAS® Deployment Wizard under Windows. Here is an example of what it might contain:
      INFO: Launcher::Run::start::platform=wx6
    • SDW.log: This is the log for the SAS Deployment Wizard. Here is a sample of what it might contain:

  • For SAS 9.2 (TS2M0), here are some additional logs:

    C:\Program Files\SAS\SASFoundation\9.2\core\sasinst\reserved\sas.log contains a list of the products that you have selected. For example:

       [Selected Components]
       Item1=ROOT\sas\whouse = 1
       Item2=ROOT\sas\toolkt = 1
       Item3=ROOT\sas\teradata = 1
       Item4=ROOT\sas\tablesrvtk = 1
       Item5=ROOT\sas\sybase = 1
       Item6=ROOT\sas\stat = 1
       Item7=ROOT\sas\spdsclient = 1
       Item8=ROOT\sas\share = 1

    If your temporary directory has not been cleaned, the sassetup.log will still be there. Under Vista, the sassetup.log is usually located at C:\Users\user-ID\AppData\Local\Temp\{FF40E37A-032D-4BF2-ACFA-4BA9CF8C255D}\{F9390B82-786C-43CF-A970-D39E23EF0366}. If it is not there, refer to the sasinstall_date-installed_time-installed.log file. Note that the contents of the sasinstall__date-installed_time-installed.log and the sassetup.log file are almost the same.

    This is an example of the contents of the sassetup.log file

       SETUP: Running in quiet mode.
