Usage Note 33239: SAS® 9.2 Foundation Phase I must be uninstalled in a certain order

DetailsAboutRate It

When you uninstall SAS 9.2 Foundation Phase I, it is important that you perform the uninstallation in a certain order, as follows:

  1. Make sure that you stop all SAS services and processes before you begin uninstalling the software. See SAS Note 13834 for more detail on how to stop SAS services.
  2. Select Start ► Settings ► Control Panel ► Add or Remove Programs. Then select SAS 9.2 and click Add/Remove.

Note: The procedure in the Windows Vista environment is slightly different. For that operating system, select Start ► Settings ► Control Panel ► Programs and Features. In the Programs and Features window, select the application you want to delete and then either double-click it to uninstall it, or right-click the application and select Uninstall/Change.

  3. Uninstall the 9.2 SAS Versioned Jar Repository last. Uninstalling the SAS Versioned Jar Repository cleans up everything on your system. This action also warns you if an application is still installed and needs to be removed . (This behavior occurs often, for example, with the SAS Report Fonts for Clients application. See SAS Note 31151 for more details.)

If you have problems uninstalling the software from the Control Panel window, you might need to remove SAS 9.2 manually. Note: If you have more than one release of SAS on your machine (for example, SAS® 8.2 or SAS® 9.1.3), the process is different. Contact SAS Technical Support for instructions on how to uninstall multiple versions of SAS.

To remove SAS 9.2 manually:

  1. Reboot your PC, log in as the administrator of the machine, and close all applications, including anti-virus, anti-spyware, and anti-adware programs.
  2. Make sure you stop all SAS services and processes.
  3. Delete the 9.2 directory where the sas.exe file resides. By default, the directory is C:\Program Files\SAS\SASFoundation\9.2.
  4. Delete the Shared Files directory. By default, this directory is C:\Program Files\SAS\Shared Files. Note that if you have installed earlier releases of SAS, such as SAS 8.2, the default directory is C:\Program Files\SAS Institute\Shared Files.
  5. Delete the SAS Deployment Wizard Directory. By default, this directory is C:\Documents and Settings\user-id\Local Settings\Application Data\SAS\SAS Deployment Wizard. In the Vista environment, the default directory is C:\Users\user-id\AppData\Local\SAS\SAS Deployment Wizard. In these paths, user-id specifies the user that performed the original installation.
  6. Delete the SAS installation log directory. By default, this directory is C:\Program Files\SAS\InstallMisc\InstallLogs\9.2.
  7. Delete the vpd.properties file, if it exists. This file is installed in the C:\WinNT or C:\Windows directory.
  8. Finally, if no other versions of SAS reside on the machine, delete C:\Program Files\SAS.

Note: In most cases, it is not necessary to remove any registry keys. The SAS Versioned Jar Repository program cleans up the registry keys. If it becomes necessary to remove those keys manually, contact SAS Technical Support and reference this SAS Note.
