Usage Note 13834: Back up your PC and stop the SAS Services if installing SAS service
packs
Before applying your SAS Service Pack, be sure to stop all of your SAS
services gracefully and back up your operating system. Backing up your
operating system is always recommended before installing any program on
the Windows operating system.
To stop the SAS services perform one of the following options:
1. Stopping services in the Control Panel:
a. Click on Start>Settings>Control Panel>Administrative
Tools>Services.
b. Locate the SAS Services and click on Stop
For example, where BIArchitec stands for the project name:
SAS Lev1 CS - BIArchitec (Connect Server)
SAS Lev1 MS - BIArchitec (Metadata Server)
SAS Lev1 OB - BIArchitec (Object Spawner)
Other SAS services that might be listed include:
SAS Object Spawner Daemon (Integration Technologies)
SAS Job Spawner (Connect)
2. Stopping services from the Start menu:
Stop the SAS Services from the Start>Programs>SAS>BIArchitec
(*projectname*) and select the SAS Servers or Spawners. For
example:
Stop SAS Metadata Server
Stop SAS Object Spawner
Stop SAS Connect Server
3. Stopping services via the StopServer.bat file:
Go to the appropriate server directory and run the StopServer.bat
program. For example:
C:\SAS\BIArchitec\Lev1\SASMain\MetadataServer\StopServer.bat
A good rule of thumb after you have closed any existing SAS sessions is
to end any sas.exe processes in the Task Manager before beginning the
SAS Service Pack installation. If you do not close SAS before installing
you will receive the following error:
SAS In Use
SAS Foundation is active and cannot be updated. All SAS processes
must be closed before Setup can continue.
Click Yes after SAS has been closed and Setup can continue. Or, click
No to exit Setup.
