Usage Note 32905: Migrating SAS® Enterprise Miner(tm) 5.x projects to a new server running on a different operating system

DetailsAboutRate It

A SAS Enterprise Miner 5.x project consists of two pieces: the physical project folder, and metadata about that project. The project folder is stored on the SAS workspace server's file system. The metadata about the project is stored in the foundation repository on SAS® Metadata Server.

The steps that you follow to move a project from one location to another depend on these factors:

  1. the operating system on which the project folder is stored
  2. the operating system to which you want to move the project
  3. whether the SAS Metadata Repository remains the same

This note describes the steps for moving a project to a new workspace server that has a different operating system (from the originating one).

If you are moving your project to a server running the same operating system, such as from Windows to Windows, then follow the instructions in a different note: SAS Note 32904 "Migrating SAS® Enterprise Miner™ 5.x projects to a new server running on the same operating system".

Follow these steps on the old system:

  1. Secure all start-up code needed for the project to work (such as SAS Enterprise Miner Server Initialization Code, Project Startup code, "autoexec.sas" file).
  2. Save the datasource definition files (the _cm, _p, _tm tables) from the DataSources folder within the project. Use either a ZIP file or a SAS Transport file. The goal is to move the datasources for the project to the new system.

  3. Save the diagram as an XML file.

Follow these steps on the new system:

  1. Make sure that all source data that is used in the project is accessible on this new system.
  2. Verify that the required libraries for accessing the source data are assigned through either metadata or start-up code.
  3. Create a new project, enter Project Startup code as needed.
  4. Extract, copy, or use PROC CIMPORT to move the datasource definition files to the new DataSources folder for the new project.
  5. Import the diagram from the diagram XML file.
  6. Run the diagram to re-create the results.

When you run the diagram, you might encounter an error:

Invalid or missing READ password on member EMDATA.EM_DGMKEY.DATA

To work around the error, see this note: SAS Note 16393 "EM_DGMKEY is password protected in SAS® Enterprise Miner™ 5.x".
