Server-Tier Requirements

SAS IT Resource Management Server

Select a platform:

The following SAS/ACCESS Interface engines are delivered with SAS IT Resource Management Server:

  • SAS/ACCESS Interface to DB2
  • SAS/ACCESS Interface to ODBC (for HP-UX on Itanium, Linux for x64, 64-bit-enabled AIX, 64-bit-enabled Solaris, Solaris for x64, and Windows for x64)
  • SAS/ACCESS Interface to Oracle
  • SAS/ACCESS Interface to PC Files

One standard SAS/ACCESS engine of choice is also included. In addition, the solution includes three SAS Metadata Bridges of choice, plus General Industry Standards.

SAS IT Resource Management has the following third-party dependencies:

  • SAS IT Resource Management is a SAS application and as such, requires a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) on the server tier. For all platforms other than z/OS, a private JRE is provided by SAS and installed by the SAS Deployment Wizard for the use of SAS products. For z/OS, a Java Software Development Kit (SDK) is provided in the SAS Software Depot for use during installation, maintenance, and application of hot fixes. Some features of SAS 9.4, such as SAS/GRAPH support for the javaimg device and the SAS REPORT procedure, require a Java SDK. Therefore for any use of Java SDK in production SAS software on z/OS, you must install an appropriate Service Refresh of IBM 31-bit SDK. Refer to the SAS 9.4 section of the Third-Party Software Requirements web page (http://support.sas.com/resources/thirdpartysupport/) for more information about Java Development Kits.
  • The SAS Download Manager and the SAS Deployment Wizard provide a windowing interface that requires an X11 server in UNIX and z/OS environments. If an X11 server is not available, console mode enables you to use the SAS Download Manager and the SAS Deployment Wizard in a text-based terminal window without an X11 server. For more information about using console mode, see the SAS Deployment Wizard and SAS Deployment Manager 9.4 User's Guide.
  • When you deploy SAS Data Integration Server or SAS IT Resource Management under UNIX or z/OS, you must have a virtual frame buffer, such as Xvfb, running on the target host if you are using console mode. Refer to the SAS 9.4 section of the Third-Party Software Requirements page, http://support.sas.com/resources/thirdpartysupport/, for details on X11 Servers.
  • SAS IT Resource Management requires MXG Software from Merrill Consultants for the processing of SMF-based data sources on the server tier for all operating systems. This software is included with SAS IT Resource Management on the z/OS operating system. Customers processing SMF data on other operating systems should contact Merrill Consultants for a license to run MXG software.
  • SAS IT Resource Management includes Demand Technology Performance Sentry Software for the processing of Windows system data. The Demand Technology software is included with SAS IT Resource Management on the Windows operating system. The licenses for that product are for 50 seats and are offered for a 180-day period, at which time the software can be renewed with Demand Technology.

* If your SAS IT Resource Management Server is on z/OS, please note the following memory requirements:

  • Batch jobs using SAS IT Resource Management software on a z/OS server tier require a region specification of at least 1024M.
  • TSO user IDs that will be using SAS IT Resource Management software should have an ASSIZEMAX specification of at least 1024M.
  • The SAS Installer TSO user ID that is used to install SAS IT Resource Management also requires an ASSIZEMAX of 1024M, or, if performing an IT Resource Migration, 2000M, with a CPUTIMEMAX value of 20000.

SAS IT Resource Management Adapter for SAP Server

Select a platform:

SAS IT Resource Management Adapter for SAP Server is available on request at no additional charge.

SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Server

Select a platform:

SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Server is available on request at no additional charge.

SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Server includes one standard SAS/ACCESS engine of choice for transactional data. This engine must be the same as that selected for the SAS IT Resource Management Server. SAS recommends that you install SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Server on a separate machine from the solution software.

Inclusion of SAS Visual Analytics LASR Server

  • SAS Visual Analytics LASR Server, Non-distributed is included automatically if the deployment is for Non-distributed LASR. It is optional if the deployment is for Distributed LASR.
  • SAS Visual Analytics LASR Server, Distributed is included automatically if the deployment is for Distributed LASR.

For Hadoop Support

Base SAS, SAS/ACCESS engines, and SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Server can be installed on the head node of the commodity hardware (symmetric) or on separate hardware (asymmetric). The Distributed LASR Base SAS components for SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting can therefore be installed on Windows for x64 while working with the Linux for x64 LASR grid.

SAS LASR Analytic Server (Distributed LASR) on Linux for x64

SAS Products installed on this machine:
  • SAS High-Performance Computing Management Console 2.8
  • SAS High-Performance Node Installation 3.5
  • SAS Plug-ins for Hadoop 1.0

Disk Space Consumed by Installed Products: 1 MB
Supported Environments:
  • Oracle Linux 6.1 (64-bit version) on the x64 chip family

The SAS High-Performance Computing Management Console component is included with SAS LASR Analytic Server.

Use of a co-located Hadoop File System (HDFS) is optional, but it requires a supported Hadoop environment and SAS Plug-ins for Hadoop (which are included with your license). For information about supported Hadoop distributions, refer to http://support.sas.com/resources/thirdpartysupport/v94/hadoop/hadoop-distributions.html. The plug-ins require additional configuration. For more information, see SAS High-Performance Analytics Infrastructure 3.5: Installation and Configuration Guide at http://support.sas.com/documentation/solutions/hpainfrastructure/.

SAS Metadata Server

Select a platform:

SAS makes the following recommendations for SAS Metadata Server deployments:

  • a 64-bit host system
  • a dedicated machine to simplify tuning, management, and diagnostics
  • multi-core server hardware because SAS Metadata Server is multi-threaded
  • four or more cores for production deployments

The disk I/O performance of any server-class system should be sufficient. Memory requirements are highly dependent on the product mix and usage, but 8 GB of RAM are sufficient for most large deployments. For many deployments, 4 GB of RAM are sufficient and should be considered a minimum, unless the specific deployment is tested and verified to require less memory.

If your SAS Metadata Server is on z/OS 64-bit, note the following memory requirements:

  • A modification of the MEMLIMIT size specified in the Metadata Server started task is recommended. By default, the value is MEM=2G, but this should be MEM=4G for use with SAS IT Resource Management.
  • The default REGION size of 1024M does not require modification.

Middle-Tier Requirements

On some AIX systems, if the required GNU C Compiler run-time library (libgcc) is not available, the SAS IT Resource Management Mid-Tier configuration step in the SAS Deployment Wizard can fail. For more information, refer to SAS Note 51737, available at http://support.sas.com/kb/51/737.html.

SAS IT Resource Management Mid-Tier
