SAS Decision Manager is available for both Distributed and Non-distributed SAS LASR Analytic Server deployments. These system requirements apply to both LASR deployments. The headings below indicate whether components apply to a specific LASR deployment type.
To keep pace with changes to third-party technologies, SAS has adopted a general policy of supporting one or more baseline major versions, subsequent minor updates, and subsequent major versions for each officially supported operating system. Only the supported baseline major versions are listed in this document. The full SAS Support policy governing third-party software can be found at https://support.sas.com/en/documentation/third-party-software-reference/baseline-and-higher.html.
As part of this policy, SAS strongly encourages customers to install the latest operating-system service packs.
The SAS Metadata Server, Business Rules Manager Server, and Model Manager Server can all be installed on the same machine or separate machines.
The SAS Decision Manager Server and the SAS Micro Analytic Services Mid-tier must be installed on the same platform (such as Windows or Linux). However, SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting (both the Server and Mid-tier components) and the SAS Decision Manager Mid-tier can be installed on different platforms than SAS Decision Manager Server.
SAS Decision Manager is no longer available on 32-bit Windows due to the addition of the SAS Micro Analytic Services.
The SAS Decision Manager Server component includes a SAS Data Integration Server subcomponent, which is available in other offerings. For information about the applicable system requirements, review the separate System Requirements document.
SAS Decision Manager Server includes a standard SAS/ACCESS engine of choice for transactional data. It also includes three SAS Metadata bridges of choice, plus General Industry Standards, which is included automatically.
You must select one of the following components:
When SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting is installed on a separate server-tier machine, all servers that need to transfer data to the SAS LASR Analytic Server require either SAS LASR Analytic Server Access Tools or SAS/CONNECT.
SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Server includes a Standard SAS/ACCESS engine of choice. The platform must match that of the SAS Model Manager SAS/ACCESS engine; all others are separately licensed.
It also includes the following:
With SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting release 7.1 and later, Teradata and EMC Greenplum, like all other data storage providers, must use the Embedded Process to achieve parallel loading.
To support Hadoop, Base SAS, SAS/ACCESS, and SAS Visual Analytics 7.1 and higher components can either be installed on the head node of the commodity hardware (symmetric) or on separate hardware from the commodity hardware nodes (asymmetric). This architecture enables you to install the SAS Visual Analytics, Distributed LASR server-tier Base SAS components on Windows for x64 while working with the Linux for x64 LASR Grid.
Apache Hadoop software is distributed with SAS software as a convenience. For support information, see http://support.sas.com/resources/thirdpartysupport/ApacheHadoopSupport.html.
SAS Decision Manager contains a SAS data server, SAS Decision Manager Common Data Server, which requires additional configuration.
The size of the data server is small.
Note: When you configure your software, the size of each data server must be considered.
Before you install, update, or add products and solutions that result in the deployment of one or more SAS data servers to the same machine, kernel parameter changes for shared memory and semaphores are required. For details about configuration of small, medium, and large data servers, see the section "Tuning the PostgreSQL Data Server" in the guide SAS 9.4 Web Applications: Tuning for Performance and Scalability, Second Edition. at http://support.sas.com/documentation/onlinedoc/intellplatform/tabs/admin94.html
SAS makes the following recommendations for SAS Metadata Server deployments:
The disk I/O performance of any server-class system should be sufficient. Memory requirements are highly dependent on the product mix and usage, but 8 GB of RAM are sufficient for most large deployments. For many deployments, 4 GB of RAM are sufficient and should be considered a minimum, unless the specific deployment is tested and verified to require less memory.
You must install SAS Micro Analytic Services Mid-tier on the same platform as the SAS Decision Manager Server. However, SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting (both the Server and Mid-tier components) and SAS Decision Manager Mid-tier can be installed on different platforms than SAS Decision Manager Server.
SAS recommends deploying the SAS Visual Analytics and Reporting Mid-Tier Server on a separate machine from the SAS Decision Manager Server.
When you install your SAS solution software, SAS Deployment Manager installs and configures the required web application servers and web servers.
To install these servers, select one of the supported operating systems for the middle tier.
Note: These servers cannot be installed on the z/OS or 32-bit Windows platforms.
SAS Visual Analytics Mobile Clients (SAS Mobile BI) are available for the Apple iPad and Android tablets via free downloads from app stores.
