After you have signed your contract, we will provide you with the SAS software you need to work on your book project. We also can extend your software license if it expires before you complete your project. To provide a framework for the appearance of your book, we have developed easy-to-use Word templates, one for each of the two book sizes we offer: 8.5" x 11" and 7" x 9". The templates simply set up the appearance and spacing of headings, bulleted lists, and captions for tables, figures, and output. We also have LaTeX templates available for authoring purposes. If you are working in Word or LaTeX, contact your acquisitions editor to request a template.
You will need to include the following with your sample chapters:
Format
We prefer to receive both a black/white and a color photograph, but if you can send only one, choose the color.
A conversion to black and white can be handled here. The photos can be either a studio portrait or a 35mm snapshot.
If you prefer to provide a digital image, be sure to supply a file with sufficient resolution and file size to support printing.
The minimum file size requirement is 4 x 5 inches at 300 dpi (dots-per-inch). This translates to a 1200 x 1500 pixel minimum.
If the file is saved as a .tif file, this means the file size would be approximately 5.16 Mb. Should you choose to save the file a
s a .jpg file, you must save the file at the highest quality (least compression) setting. This is usually "10" or "12," depending upon
your software. All files should be color, rgb files. If there is any question about meeting these resolution and file requirements,
please supply a hardcopy photograph. We'll be happy to digitize the image for you.
Note: If you already have an electronic image that does not meet the file size and resolution requirements, changing the size of an existing file to meet these requirements will result in a poor-quality image that will not be usable. The necessary file size and resolution must be obtained at the moment the image is digitized and not later, in order to achieve satisfactory results.

If you use copyrighted text, data, or graphics in your SAS Press book, you must obtain written permission from the owner.
Obtaining permissions can be a lengthy and expensive effort. The easiest way to deal with the issue is avoid using copyrighted material. If you still feel that you have no choice other than incorporating copyrighted material, begin this process as you are developing chapters:
If you submit your manuscript before you have completed the permissions process, your book may be placed on hold until you obtain the necessary permissions.
