DetailsAboutRate It

The purpose of this SAS Note is to help you install the SAS 9.4 PC Files Server, which is available for download. The instructions in this note are to be used in conjunction with the SAS® 9.4 PC Files Server Installation and Configuration Guide, which contains full instructions for installing and using the SAS PC Files Server.

Important: Open the above link to the SAS® 9.4 PC Files Server Installation and Configuration Guide before using this SAS Note. You will use only a few pages of the guide, not the entire guide.

Required Steps for Installing the SAS PC Files Server

  1. Check your version of Microsoft Office and your version of SAS:
  • See the "Preinstallation Steps" section on page 2 of the guide to determine the version and bit architecture of both.
  1. If SAS is running on a Windows platform and the Microsoft Office and SAS bit architectures match, you do not need to install the SAS PC Files Server. You can use DBMS=EXCEL or DBMS=ACCESS without the SAS PC Files Server.

  2. If SAS is running on a Windows platform and the Microsoft Office and SAS bit architectures do not match or SAS is running on a UNIX platform, then you can install the SAS PC Files Server.
  • Continue with the instructions found on page 2 of the guide.
  1.  To install the SAS PC Files Server, complete these steps:
    1. Navigate to the section "Installing the SAS PC Files Server," which begins on page 5 of the guide.
    2. Make sure that you choose the Windows version if your Office software is 32-bit and the Microsoft Windows for X64 version if your Office software is 64-bit.

Importing and Exporting Microsoft Files

  • If SAS and the SAS PC Files Server are on the same machine:
    • See page 19 of the guide for example code to use with the SAS PC Files Server.

  • If SAS and the SAS PC Files Server are on different machines:
    • See page 26 of the guide for example code to use with the SAS PC Files Server.

Additional Option

  • To use the Import Wizard with the SAS PC Files Server, see SAS Note 44197.
  • To use the Export Wizard with the SAS PC Files Server, see SAS Note 45340.
