Performing metadata server-based deployments (planning order)
Follow the steps shown below.
- Step 1: Prepare your environment
- Step 2: Deploy your software
- Step 3: Validate your deployment
- Step 4: Add users
The first step is to prepare your environment. This includes tasks such as defining operating system user accounts and groups, installing third-party software and choosing a plan file.
- Reviewing the system requirements | Documentation
- Defining user accounts | Documentation
- Defining groups | Documentation
- Installing third-party products | Documentation
- Reviewing and designating ports | Documentation
- Choosing a plan file | Documentation
- Performing additional z/OS pre-installation tasks | Documentation
The next step is to deploy (install and configure) your SAS software.
Use the SAS Deployment Manager to deploy your software | Documentation
Note: The SAS Deployment Wizard will prompt you to select your plan file. The plan file that you selected in Step 1: Prepare your environment determines which SAS software should be installed and configured on each machine in your SAS deployment.
The SAS Deployment Wizard pages that you are presented with will depend upon the plan file that you selected.
Some SAS Deployment Wizard pages will prompt you to enter information. If you are unsure of an answer, you can accept the default. You can also use the Help button on each page to get more information about a step on that page.
The next step is to validate your deployment.
- Follow the steps located in your instructions.html file, which is located in your SAS configuration directory
- Qualify the installation and operational status of the SAS System (optional).
Some regulated industries might require that the SAS installation has been qualified. To qualify the installation and operational status of your SAS installation, refer to the SAS 9.4 Qualification Tools User's Guide.
The next step is to add users.
Note: Before users can connect to the metadata server using a client such as SAS Enterprise Guide or the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office, users must first have a SAS identity.
To create a SAS identity for users, follow the instructions in this document to add users with the SAS Management Console User Manager Plug-in.
