This document has been updated to reflect the requirements to deploy this SAS software along with SAS 9.4M9 (TS1M9), which was generally available in 2025.
SAS Real-Time Decision Manager combines decision logic with analytics to deliver deep insights from data, including customer lifetime value, propensity, attrition, and credit risk modeling. SAS Real-Time Decision Manager helps you make high-quality decisions in high-volume environments.
SAS Real-Time Decision Manager Run-Time Server integrates with various systems to operationalize the decisions. The Run-Time Server is used with the SAS Real-Time Decision Manager Design Server, which is used to create the decisions and deploy them to the Run-Time Servers. For more information, see the separate System Requirements document for the Design Server.
To keep pace with changes to third-party technologies, SAS has adopted a general policy of supporting one or more baseline major versions and subsequent minor updates for each officially supported operating system. As part of this policy, SAS strongly encourages customers to install the latest operating-system service packs. Only the supported baseline major versions are listed in this document.
The full SAS Support policy governing third-party software can be found at SAS Third-Party Software Requirements - Baseline and Later Support.
Third-party anti-virus, anti-spyware, endpoint-protection, and system-monitoring software can interfere with SAS applications and can block files. For more information about the official guidance from SAS Technical Support, see the Anti-Virus section of the SAS Foundation System Requirements document that corresponds to the operating system where you are deploying SAS.
The SAS Real-Time Decision Manager Run-Time Server includes two SAS/ACCESS engines of choice from the following list:
The SAS Real-Time Decision Manager Run-Time SAS Data Integration Server includes two Standard SAS/ACCESS engines of choice for your platform. It also includes three SAS Metadata Bridges of choice. The Metadata Bridge for General Industry Standards is included automatically.
The SAS Data Integration Server is optional.
SAS Federation Server includes a driver of choice for one of the following databases:
Federation Server drivers for Db2 and PostgreSQL are automatically included in SAS Real-Time Decision Manager, along with the Oracle driver.
SAS Federation Server includes a SAS Quality Knowledge Base Locale of choice, the same as selected for SAS Federation Server. If a locale is not specified, SAS Quality Knowledge Base Locale for English (USA) is included by default.
SAS makes the following recommendations for SAS Metadata Server deployments:
The disk I/O performance of any server-class system should be sufficient. Memory requirements are highly dependent on the product mix and usage, but 8 GB of RAM are sufficient for most large deployments. For many deployments, 4 GB of RAM are sufficient and should be considered a minimum, unless the specific deployment is tested and verified to require less memory.
SAS Real-Time Decision Manager has two types of middle tiers, the Operational Mid-Tier (for executing campaigns) and the Design Mid-Tier (for designing campaigns). Both middle tiers are J2EE applications that run within a J2EE application server.
This document provides requirements for the SAS Real-Time Decision Manager Operational server components. See the separate System Requirements document for information about SAS Real-Time Decision Manager Design Server requirements.
SAS Decision Services Toolkit is provided by means of customer download for Windows 32-bit workstations and Windows for x64 workstations.
SAS Real-Time Decision Manager 6.7 can connect to various databases using SAS/ACCESS. The following list indicates database versions with which SAS Real-Time Decision Manager 6.7 is compatible:
Notes:
Microsoft Server Failover Cluster is not supported.
SAS Real-Time Decision Manager 6.7 Run-Time Server on Amazon Web Services (AWS) supports Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) for Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and PostgreSQL.
SAS 9.4M9 supports Oracle Database 19c or later. If your installation includes Oracle Database 12c, note that Oracle Multi-tenant architecture is not supported.
If your installation includes Oracle Database 12.2, this version is only supported by SAS 9.4 TS1M4 (SAS 9.4M4) and later. Oracle 12.2 on Linux requires a hot fix. For more information, see the following SAS Note: http://support.sas.com/kb/60/895.html.
The same versions of Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and PostgreSQL supported in physical deployments are supported on RDS.
Connectivity to Oracle RAC is supported by means of connection strings containing one Oracle Single Client Access Name (SCAN) listener address. Support has the following limitations:
Teradata and Greenplum are massively parallel-processing data storage technologies often deployed as enterprise data warehouses. Databases deployed in this manner might not provide the performance necessary for certain high-throughput Real-Time Decision Manager usage scenarios. The SAS Real-time Decision Manager Administrator's Guide provides more guidance.
If staging capabilities are used, HBase version 0.94.11 or later is required.
SAS Real-Time Decision Manager Operational Mid-Tier: 32 GB minimum
Memory requirements for optimal performance might vary and should be determined based on an official sizing estimation from SAS. To request sizing expertise, contact your SAS account representative.
Requirements for the Operational Mid-Tier vary based on the number of requests from other systems and the number of processes that are running concurrently.
This requirement is the amount of disk space that the SAS Real-Time Decision Manager Server setup directories might require. Additional space might also be required for new content and customization.
Additional disk space is required for third-party software. Here are examples of third-party software that might be required, based on your configuration:
Memory requirements for optimal performance might vary, and should be determined based on consultation with SAS.
Requirements for the Server Tier vary based on the number of requests from other systems and the number of processes that are running concurrently.
The amount of disk space that the setup directories for the SAS Real-Time Decision Manager Server, SAS Federation Server, and DataFlux Authentication Server might require is listed below:
Additional space might also be required for new content and customization.
Additional disk space is required for third-party software, such as a database client.
For memory and disk space requirements that apply to SAS 9.4 Foundation, refer to the SAS 9.4 System Requirements document that corresponds to your operating system. You can find these documents on the SAS 9.4 Foundation System Requirements page.
