System Requirements
SAS® Real-Time Decision Manager 6.7 (Design Server)

Overview

This document has been updated to reflect the requirements to deploy this SAS software along with SAS 9.4M9 (TS1M9), which was generally available in 2025.

SAS Real-Time Decision Manager is available for both distributed and non-distributed SAS LASR Analytic Server deployments. These system requirements apply to both LASR deployments. The headings below indicate whether components apply to a specific LASR deployment.

The Design Server is used with the SAS Real-Time Decision Manager Run-Time Server, which deploys decisions. For more information, see the separate System Requirements document for the Run-Time Server.

SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting

SAS Real-Time Decision Manager (Distributed LASR) includes the distributed version of SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting. This component is required to enable the Reporting Workspace in the CI Studio user interface. If SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting is not installed, the Reporting Workspace will not be available in your system. Refer to deployment instructions for more information.

SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting must be installed on a separate machine from SAS Real-Time Decision Manager.

Anti-Virus Software

Third-party anti-virus, anti-spyware, endpoint-protection, and system-monitoring software can interfere with SAS applications and can block files. For more information about the official guidance from SAS Technical Support, see the Anti-Virus section of the SAS Foundation System Requirements document that corresponds to the operating system where you are deploying SAS.

Server-Tier Requirements

To keep pace with changes to third-party technologies, SAS has adopted a general policy of supporting one or more baseline major versions and subsequent minor updates for each officially supported operating system. As part of this policy, SAS strongly encourages customers to install the latest operating-system service packs. Only the supported baseline major versions are listed in this document.

The full SAS Support policy governing third-party software can be found at SAS Third-Party Software Requirements - Baseline and Later Support.

SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Server includes one standard SAS/ACCESS engine of choice. This must be the same as the SAS Real-Time Decision Manager Design ACCESS engine; others are licensed separately.

SAS recommends that you install SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Server on a separate machine from the solution software.

Inclusion of SAS Visual Analytics LASR Server

  • SAS Visual Analytics LASR Server, Non-distributed is included automatically if the deployment is for Non-distributed LASR. It is optional if the deployment is for Distributed LASR.
  • SAS Visual Analytics LASR Server, Distributed is included automatically if the deployment is for Distributed LASR.

For Hadoop Support

Base SAS, SAS/ACCESS engines, and SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting Server can be installed on the head node of the commodity hardware (symmetric) or on separate hardware (asymmetric). The Distributed LASR Base SAS components for SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting can therefore be installed on Windows for x64 while working with the Linux for x64 LASR grid.

SAS Solution LASR Analytic Server (Non-distributed LASR)

Select a platform:

SAS Solution LASR Analytic Server, Non-distributed LASR includes one standard SAS/ACCESS engine of choice (for transactional data purposes) as available per platform. This must be the same as the SAS Visual Analytics Administration and Reporting SAS/ACCESS engine; others are licensed separately.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.10 (64-bit version) on the x64 chip family
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.1 (64-bit version) on the x64 chip family
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 (64-bit version) with SP3 on the x64 chip family

Use of a co-located Hadoop File System (HDFS) is optional, but it requires a supported Hadoop environment and SAS Plug-ins for Hadoop (which are included with your license). For information about supported Hadoop distributions, refer to SAS 9.4: Support for Hadoop. The plug-ins require additional configuration. For more information, see the SAS High-Performance Analytics Infrastructure 3.9: Installation and Configuration Guide.

SAS Metadata Server

Select a platform:

SAS makes the following recommendations for SAS Metadata Server deployments:

  • a 64-bit host system
  • a dedicated machine to simplify tuning, management, and diagnostics
  • multi-core server hardware because SAS Metadata Server is multi-threaded
  • four or more cores for production deployments

The disk I/O performance of any server-class system should be sufficient. Memory requirements are highly dependent on the product mix and usage, but 8 GB of RAM are sufficient for most large deployments. For many deployments, 4 GB of RAM are sufficient and should be considered a minimum, unless the specific deployment is tested and verified to require less memory.

Middle-Tier Requirements

SAS Real-Time Decision Manager has two types of middle tier: the Operational Mid-Tier (for executing campaigns), and the Design Mid-Tier (for designing campaigns). Both middle tiers are J2EE applications that run within a J2EE application server.

Specific Product Requirements

Databases

SAS Real-Time Decision Manager 6.7 can connect to various databases using SAS/ACCESS. Here are the databases with which SAS Real-Time Decision Manager 6.7 is compatible:

Note: For specific version information, refer to SAS Support for Cloud and Database Variants and consult the SAS/ACCESS System Requirements, which are included in the SAS 9.4 Foundation system requirements document that corresponds to your operating system.

  • Greenplum
  • IBM Db2/UDB
  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • Oracle
  • PostgreSQL
  • Teradata

Notes:

Microsoft Server Failover Cluster is not supported.

SAS Real-Time Decision Manager 6.7 Design Server on Amazon Web Services (AWS) supports Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) for Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and PostgreSQL.

The same versions of Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and PostgreSQL that are supported in physical deployments are supported on RDS.

SAS 9.4M9 supports Oracle Database 19c or later. If your installation includes Oracle Database 12c, note that Oracle Multi-tenant architecture is not supported.

Connectivity to Oracle RAC is supported by means of connection strings that contain one Oracle Single Client Access Name (SCAN) listener address. SAS supports this configuration with the following limitations:

  • In the event of Oracle RAC node failure, SAS Real-Time Decision Manager will reestablish its connection pool through SCAN, enabling the SCAN listener to resolve connection requests to any RAC nodes that remain operational.
  • The following features are not supported:
    • Oracle Transparent Application Failover (TAF)
    • Oracle Fast Connection Failover (FCF)
    • Options that require client application integration with Oracle Notification Service (ONS), or that require the registration of client callback routines with Oracle

If staging capabilities are utilized, treatments are now staged to the Customer Intelligence Common Data Model.

Teradata and Greenplum are massively parallel-processing data storage technologies that are often deployed as enterprise data warehouses. Databases deployed in this manner might not provide the performance necessary for certain high-throughput SAS Real-Time Decision Manager usage scenarios. Consult with SAS Customer Intelligence Professional Services before deploying SAS Real-Time Decision Manager with these databases. The SAS Real-Time Decision Manager Administrator's Guide provides additional guidance.
