Usage Note 35441: Configuring the Password Update utility to work with SAS/SECUREĀ®
If you attempt to use the Password Update utility to update passwords for a metadata server that has been configured to take advantage of the stronger encryption algorithms available with SAS/SECURE® software, you will receive the following message if you have not properly configured the client environment to communicate with the server:
NOTE: Encryption algorithm specified is not supported.
When this happens the passwords are not updated.
In order to use the Password Update utility in this environment, perform the following steps:
-
Ensure that you have downloaded the proper version of the Password Utility. You must have 913PASSWDSYNC02 or higher. The latest version is accessible from the Hot Fix tab of SAS Note
20961. Install the setpw.jar according to the instructions included in the download package.
-
Install the SAS/SECURE Java Component on the client machine. This can be found by performing an indexed install, expanding CD Index in the Software Index pane, expanding the SAS/SECURE folder, and selecting SAS/SECURE Java Component.
-
After the SAS/SECURE Java Component is installed, locate the installation directory (the default on Windows is C:\Program Files\SAS\SASSecureJava\1.3.1) and copy the sas.rutil.jar file into the directory where you installed the setpw.jar file in Step 1 above.
You may now execute the Password Update utility and connect to the secure metadata server. As long as the metadata server has been configured with CEL=EVERYTHING, all the information sent by the Password Update utility will be sent to the metadata server in encrypted form, using the encryption algorithm specified in the NETENCRALG configuration option.
Select the Hot Fix tab in this note to access the hot fix for this issue.
