Usage Note 20961: The Password Update utility is available to update login metadata

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

SAS® now provides a new password update utility to update login metadata in addition to the existing methods of using the SAS® Management Console and the SAS® Personal Login Manager.

The password update utility replaces the password that is associated with a user ID in a particular authentication domain. It does not extract updated passwords from the source password systems. Nor does it create a new login definition on the SAS® Metadata Server. If a matching user ID and AuthenticationDomain cannot be found on the SAS Metadata Server, that particular update request fails. The utility supports both a log file and an error file to capture information about failed requests.

In order for the utility to update the password on a login object, it must be connected to the SAS Metadata Server as the owner of the login or as an unrestricted user. If you are connecting as an unrestricted user, you might want to use the –ownerName and –ownerType options, which verify that the login is owned by the proper identity before you update the password.

The new password update utility has both a command line interface and a Class interface. Installation and usage instructions are included with the download. Requirements are also contained in the instructions.

Select the Hot Fix tab in this note to access the hot fix for this issue.

Note: If your SAS Metadata Server is configured to use the stronger encryption algorithms available with SAS/SECURE® software, please refer to SAS Note 35441 for additional configuration requirements.

Note: This password update utility is only available with SAS 9.1.3 SP4. For SAS 9.2, refer to the SetPassword Utility that is installed with the SAS Platform Object Framework. Documentation for this utility is available in the file "SetPassword.html" file which is located in the following directories.

The file on windows is stored under:

C:\Program Files\SAS\SASPlatformObjectFramework\9.2

The file on UNIX is stored under:

!SASINSTALLROOT/SASPlatformObjectFramework/9.2
