About SAS Universal Viewer
The SAS Universal Viewer is a replacement for the SAS System Viewer. The SAS Universal Viewer enables you to view, sort, and filter SAS data sets and other simple text-based files. You cannot edit SAS data sets with the SAS Universal Viewer. You do not have to invoke SAS or install SAS on your computer in order to use the SAS Universal Viewer.
The most current release is SAS Universal Viewer 1.3.

SAS System Viewer Is Replaced by SAS Universal Viewer
The SAS System Viewer has been a useful, free, but increasingly limited tool. The SAS Universal Viewer is a totally new application. It handles and presents data differently. It is a library or
directory-oriented tool whereas its older sibling, the SAS Viewer, focused only on individual data sets. The SAS Universal Viewer’s filtering system is data aware and largely menu driven.

Training
SAS currently does not offer public training for SAS Universal Viewer. You may submit your requests for training using our Interest List.
