SAS® 9.3 Audit, Performance and Measurement
The SAS 9.3 Audit, Performance and Measurement instrumentation package is a collection of SAS provided utilities that customers may download, install and configure for their organization. The package allows an Enterprise BI site to monitor the state of the SAS 9 BI architecture, implement audit authentication reports for regulatory compliance, and report on the performance and usability of the SAS 9 BI analytic server environment.
Audit, Performance and Measurement Features
The Audit, Performance and Measurement package enables three primary reporting features:
- SAS Metadata Server Audit Reporting, to include:
- Administrative authorization and authentication modifications
- Administrative group and userid access control modifications
- Userid authentication and authorization patterns
- Userid authentication and password failure attempts
- SAS Enterprise BI Server analytic server performance usage reports, such as:
- Metadata Library Reporting
- PROC and DATA library reports
- SAS OLAP Server Cube usage
- SAS StoredProcess Server usage and user reporting
- SAS analytic server processor utilization reports
- SAS Enterprise BI Environment Status Reports, for example:
- Web application server and services availability
- Analytic server tier availability
- Analytic server tier response time reporting
- Real-time alert feature for failure state conditions
New Features in the SAS 9.3 version of APM
For SAS 9.3, the APM package has been modified to provide additional reporting capabilities:
- EBI server status is now probed through the use of the SAS 9.3 PROC IOMOPERATE procedure. This allows display of additional metrics for each server, such as the associated host name, server version, process ID, user ID that invoked the server, and number of client connections.
- Metadata Server audit reports are now displayed in a table of clickable links which will open a new browser tab/window to display the individual report.
- A new report shows all defined Metadata Groups, Roles, and Users.
- An optional feature can be configured to monitor the status of your web app server using standard JMX calls. The APM display shows the up/down status of the app server, and supplies click-through graphs of active thread counts and heap usage.
- Much of the configuration of the APM package is automated through SAS scripts that dynamically acquire SAS EBI configuration information from the SAS Metadata Server. Using this information, the APM auto-configuration script generates prototype APM configuration files, generates a local script that will create needed Audit and Perf log directories in the SAS EBI configuration, and enables additional audit and performance logging in the monitored SAS servers.
Optimizing Features and Capabilities
The features and capabilities of the package are enabled through a set of SAS language programs, libraries and operating system specific scripts. A site may easily extend these features by creating custom reports to meet local site reporting or audit requirements. The documentation describes the organization and details of the underlying programs and processing included the package.
