Problem Note 70924: The odbc.ini file included with SAS® Viya® 3.5 includes an invalid AuthenticationMethod for Greenplum
Accessing Greenplum using the odbc.ini file that is included in the install might result in an error when the following is true:
- You are using SAS/ACCESS® Interface to Greenplum.
- You are running SAS® 9.4, SAS Viya 3.5, or the SAS® Viya® platform.
- You are using the Greenplum Driver 7.1.2 (S0gplm27.so) or later.
- You did not change the AuthenticationMethod option for Greenplum Wire Protocol in the sample odbc.ini file from the value of 1 to either 0 or 4.
The error might look similar to the following:
ERROR: CLI error trying to establish connection: [SAS][ODBC Greenplum Wire Protocol driver]The authentication type provided by driver, AM: 1, is not supported by this server
To resolve the issue, update the odbc.ini file and change the AuthenticationMethod for Greenplum to 0 or 4 (kerberos).
Click the Hot Fix tab in this note for a link to instructions about accessing and applying the software update.
After application of the hot fix, the odbc.ini file has the AuthenticationMethod for Greenplum set to 0.
Fixed Versions
If you run SAS Viya 3.5, the hot fix on the Hot Fix tab of this note addresses the issue.
For the SAS Viya platform, the issue is fixed in SAS Viya Stable 2024.08.
