Problem Note 70842: SAS® Enterprise Guide® 8.4 fails to connect to SAS® Application Server and returns "ERROR: Unable to connect to the server..."
SAS Enterprise Guide 8.4 fails to connect to SAS Application Server when you select either of the following settings by navigating to the Tools ► Options ► Data ► General ► Naming Options section:
- Valid variables names is set to User setting from server.
- Valid member names set to User setting from server.
In this scenario, the following error occurs when you attempt to connect to a SAS Application Server:
ERROR: Unable to connect to the server named “<SASApp Server Name>”.
A connection to a server is required for this function or operation.
