Problem Note 66655: Loading data sources in SAS® Visual Analytics fails with "The request could not be completed successfully due to a server error"

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

If you set your web browser language to Hebrew, importing data sources in SAS Visual Analytics might fail with an error.

For example, you might encounter this issue when you complete steps similar to the following:

  1. Set your web browser to the Hebrew language.
  2. Log on to SAS Visual Analytics and create a new report.
  3. Click Add Data in the Data pane and click the Import button.
  4. Select a data set that contains a string similar to the following in the Description Field:

נטען ב-‫27 באוגוסט 2020 04:15:07 GMT-0400  מ-'TestH.CLASSH1' על ידי sasdemo'

  1. Click the Import button. The following error occurs, and the data source is not loaded:
The request could not be completed successfully due to a server error:
Failed to transcode data from U_UTF8_CE to U_WLATIN1_CE encoding because it contained characters which are not supported by your SAS session encoding.  Please review your encoding= and locale= SAS system options to ensure that they can accommodate the data that you want to process.  A portion of the source string, in hex representation is:
Some code points did not transcode.

error message

You might also encounter the problem when you upload a data source on the LASR Server by using the SAS® Visual Analytics Administrator web application.

In this case, you receive an error similar to the one displayed in the following image:

another error message

If you check the log in the pop-up message, you see that a portion of the log and code is missing:

-------------- LOG: Load Table --------------
/* This space should contain a log, but it is empty. */
-------------- LOG: Synchronize Table Metadata --------------

This missing content indicates that the loading process failed.

In both cases reported above, the issue occurs because the Description Field contains some illegal characters.

To work around this issue, remove the string from the Description Field or set your SAS®9 server encoding to UTF-8.

This issue also occurs in SAS® Environment Manager when you add data sources from this application and you set your web browser language to Hebrew.

Click the Hot Fix tab in this note to access the hot fix for this issue.
