Problem Note 65409: Entering workflow variable data and then changing the variable type causes data to be lost or not saved
If you enter data for a workflow variable, then change the variable type, your details might not be saved on the Properties tab in SAS® Visual Investigator 10.6.
The following example can demonstrate this issue. The issue can occur with all variable types with any improper value that makes the type not valid:
- Choose a variable of type String and provide a default value of test.
- After you enter test, switch the type to any other variable type.
After these steps, you would expect that you can still click Save/Save As and be able to switch back to the Workflow tab. However, because the value is invalid for the current workflow variable type, the Save/Save As button is disabled. Also, if you click to go back to the Workflow tab, the application does not respond and you see the following error:
Configure Workflow: One or more of the workflow properties is invalid. You must correct them before you can continue editing the workflow.
If you do not use one of the following workarounds, the only way to leave the Properties tab is to close the tab. You will lose your work at this point. The application asks whether you want to save, but if your workflow is still in an invalid state, you are unable to do so.
Workarounds
- Provide the updated default value for the variable type that you last entered.
- Select the original variable type again and finish filling it out.
