Problem Note 63293: SAS® 9.4M5 (TS1M5) Internal Authentications take longer than in previous releases
Prior to SAS 9.4M5, the InternalAuthenticationPolicy was usually set to use the SHA256 or MD5 hash function. When you upgrade to SAS 9.4M5 and later, the previous hash function used to store passwords in metadata is retained.
However, new installs of SAS 9.4M5 and later default to using the SHA256-10000 hash function. This function for internal users adds more security at the expense of some performance for Internal Authentications. This behavior should not cause a problem with normal use, but tests show that simulators could saturate all the CPU threads and delay logins. For more information, see the "How to Change Internal Account Policies" section in SAS® 9.4 Intelligence Platform: Security Administration Guide, Third Edition.
A workaround is to change the internal account policy to use the SHA256 or MD5 hash function, and then restart all servers. During the next password change for internal accounts, the passwords will be stored in metadata using the new hash function.

For software releases that are not yet generally available, the Fixed
Release is the software release in which the problem is planned to be
fixed.
New installs starting with SAS 9.4M5 configure omaconfig.xml file's InternalAuthenticationPolicy HashPasswords to use the SHA256-10000 hash function. This problem does not occur in SAS 9.4M5 installations that are upgrades.
