Problem Note 61927: You might experience a delay in SAS® Studio when you attempt to create a filter on a large Hadoop (Hive) table
You might experience a delay in SAS Studio Enterprise when a filter is added to a query using the Query Builder on a database table, particularly a Hadoop (Hive) table.
To create a query, take the following steps:
- Add a table ►
- Add columns ►
- Add a filter ►
- Click to enter the filter value
However, do not enter any value(s) and do not click the down arrow.
At this point, you might experience a delay even before you select the down arrow or enter a value. The delay can take up to several minutes depending on the size of the table. Behind the scenes, SAS Studio is querying the distinct values for the filter before it has been requested.
If you enter a distinct value or cancel the query during this background lookup, one of the following errors is generated:
Unable to execute query: SQL passthru expression contained these errors: ERROR: File HIVE.<table name>.DATA does not exist.
Unable to execute query: SQL passthru expression contained these errors: ERROR: Error allocating statement handle
From the SAS Studio perspective, no log is generated and no user feedback is offered, but a query is generated on the workspace server. This query to the workspace server is contributing to the delay.
At that point, you will not be able to use the database library correctly until you reset your session.
