Problem Note 61224: In SAS® Enterprise Guide®, the Import Data task might fail to open Microsoft Excel 2016 files
The following misleading message might appear when importing an XLSX file into SAS Enterprise Guide:
The selected file appears to be a Microsoft Excel 2007 or later binary file.
In order to access the data contained within this file, one of two Microsoft products must be installed on this Windows client machine:
1. Microsoft Excel 2007 or later (individually, or as part of a Microsoft Office 2007 or later suite), or
2. Microsoft's 2007 or later Office Systems (ACE) Driver."
The Office System Driver may be downloaded, free of charge, from ...
Typically, this message occurs when the XLSX was created using Microsoft Excel 2016. The error is caused by a problem with a third-party tool, SpreadSheetGear, that is used by the Import Data task.
To circumvent the problem, open the data in Microsoft Excel, save the data as an XLS file, and import the XLS file using the Import Data task.
