Problem Note 59905: "ERROR: Unable to transcode data..." occurs when accessing a non-Western Latin (WLATIN1) Netezza database
The following error might occur when you try to read in data from a Netezza database in a SAS® session that is configured for UTF-8 encoding:
ERROR: Unable to transcode data.
NOTE: The SAS System stopped processing this step because of errors.
This error occurs when the data being read by SAS and SAS/ACCESS® Interface to Netezza contains non-Western Latin (WLATIN1) characters (for example, UTF-8 or other double-byte character sets [DBCS]).
When the SAS session encoding is UTF-8 and you are writing to the Netezza database using BULKLOAD=YES, you might also see that non-ASCII character data is not transcoded to the target column's character set, but is instead written in binary format. This might result in data-quality issues when working with third-party tools.
Note: This issue was originally reported on Microsoft Windows servers, but it could occur on all platforms.
