Renaming a library in SAS Data Integration Studio or in SAS Management Console might result in the following error:

You encounter this problem when you rename a library using either of the following methods:

• Select the library on the Folders or Inventory tabs and select Rename from the pop-up menu in SAS Data Integration Studio.
• Select the library on the Folders tab in SAS Management Console and rename it.

The error occurs as a result of a metadata query that is checking for duplicate library names in the metadata during the save process. In some instances, this query can result in a recursive or looping condition that consumes all of the available memory on the SAS^® Metadata Server. After all of the memory is consumed, the metadata server query fails, returns the above error condition to the SAS Data Integration Studio client, and then frees the memory consumed during this process. This same error message also appears in the SAS Metadata Server log.

While this looping metadata query is executing, it can negatively impact all other processes that are attempting to interact with the SAS Metadata Server. In addition, any other processes that are running on the same machine as the SAS Metadata Server can be affected.

Note: This issue occurs only when specific cross-references exist within the metadata across multiple library definitions.

To work around this issue, rename the library using the following method:

Note: Perform the workaround either from the Folders or Inventory tabs in SAS Data Integration Studio, or from the Folders tab or the Data Library Manager plug-in in SAS Management Console. 

1. Select Properties ► General for the library.
2. Make the desired name change.
3. Click OK to save the change.
