Problem Note 58320: Extracting data from SAP tables generates "ERROR: Error generating subroutine..."

Extracting data from SAP tables that have column lengths greater than 16 characters produces a syntax error similar to the following:
ERROR: Error generating subroutine at line: 82 . Unable to interpret "long-column-name".
Possible causes: Incorrect spelling or comma error.
Word: long-column-name . Offset: 2 .
There are two possible workarounds:
- Use transaction SE11 in the SAP graphical user interface (GUI) to define a Projection view for the table and specify a shorter column name.
- If the column is not needed in the SAS data set, then define a Projection view for the table and exclude the column.
