Problem Note 57509: During the installation of SAS® Add-In 7.12 for Microsoft Office with Office 2016 present, the installation does not detect the bitness of Office
If you have Microsoft Office 2016 installed and you then install SAS Add-In 7.12 for Microsoft Office from SAS 9.4 TS1M3 Rev. 16w08, the installation does not automatically detect the bitness of Office 2016. As a result, you are prompted to select the installation mode for SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office. This mode determines the bitness in which the SAS Add-In will be installed and run. Here is an example of the prompt:
Select the mode that corresponds to the Microsoft Office 2016 bitness. The 32-bit version of Microsoft Office is very common. If the incorrect mode selection is made, a bitness mismatch results between the SAS Add-In and Microsoft Office. The SAS Add-In and Microsoft Office must be the same bitness. If there is a mismatch in bitness, a GTLManagedWindows.dll error occurs when you invoke an Office product such as Microsoft Excel. Here is an example with Microsoft Excel and the corresponding Details message shown.
Workaround
To correct the issue, first uninstall SAS Add-In 7.12 for Microsoft Office. After uninstalling SAS Add-In 7.12 for Microsoft Office, reinstall it using one of these options:
- Reinstall the SAS Add-In and select the correct mode so that the bitness for the SAS Add-In matches the bitness of Office 2016.
- Or, reinstall the SAS Add-In from SAS 9.4 TS1M3 Rev. 16w13 or later.
The issue is corrected in the SAS Add-In 7.12 for Microsoft Office in SAS 9.4 TS1M3 Rev. 16w13 and later.
For information about this issue with the stand-alone installation, see SAS Note 57636: "A stand-alone installation of SAS® Add-In 7.12 for Microsoft Office in the presence of Office 2016 does not detect the bitness of Office."
