Problem Note 56315: SAS® Digital Marketing broadcast emails contain tracked links with variables in clear text and fail to return the correct link
You can use SAS Digital Marketing to create broadcasts that contain tracked links with variables (for example, customer number). These variables should be obfuscated within the tracked links. However, they might be exposed in clear text instead. In addition, when you click the tracked link from within the email, the correct page might not be displayed.
This issue occurs when the database that contains the SAS Digital Marketing tables is unavailable when the broadcast is executed. The broadcast might continue to try to execute for some time. If the INDEXED_LINKS table becomes available again during this time, the broadcast is executed and the emails are sent. However, the links within the emails might have an incorrect link ID of -1, and the variables might be exposed.
To avoid this issue, ensure that the SAS Digital Marketing system has stable access to the INDEXED_LINKS table during broadcast execution. In addition, set up a link with an ID of -1 in the INDEXED_LINKS table that points to a suitable web-page that advises you of an error.
Note: Sensitive variables should not be tracked directly within broadcasts. Having a reference table within the database, containing obfuscated values to represent the sensitive data, is advised.
