Problem Note 56910: The SAS® Deployment Backup and Recovery tool takes longer than expected to complete the backup
Problem
You might notice that the time required for the SAS Deployment Backup and Recovery tool to complete a backup is longer than expected.
The greater the size of your configuration directory or directories, SAS-configuration-directory\Levn, the more likely you are to experience the problem documented in this note.
Cause
With the third maintenance release of SAS® 9.4 software, the SAS Deployment Backup and Recovery tool enables you to define a filter for the backup. Using a filter, you can specify which tiers, servers, databases, directories, or files you want to include or exclude from a backup.
With the introduction of filtering, permissions for every file and directory in the SAS-configuration-directory\Levn\ directory are stored even if the file or directory should not be included in the backup. Because the backup stores permissions for every file and directory, this results in the backup taking longer than it should to complete.
