Problem Note 55667: Intermittent failures occur when you try to create scenarios in SAS® Marketing Optimization

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

In SAS Marketing Optimization, you might see intermittent failures when you attempt to create scenarios. These failures manifest as an orphaned data-store entry for the scenario in the scenarios table, and there is no corresponding public object for the entry.

When this failure occurs, the SASMarketingOptimization6.x.log, MarketingOptimizationddmmmyy_1.log, and ShareServer_xxx.log files show that the failure to create a scenario is related to the following error:

"ERROR: A lock is not available for MOMETA.SCENARIOS.DATA." entry in the SAS tier logs.

This problem might happen when you execute multiple scenario actions at the same time. This error results in concurrent SAS® Stored Process Server calls that need access to update the scenarios table.

The failures are intermittent because the problem is a timing issue. That is, if the problem occurs during scenario creation, the middle tier aborts the scenario-creation process, and there is no attempt to create the corresponding public object.

In this situation, the PUBLIC_OBJECT_METADATA_ID column for the scenario is blank in the scenarios table. When there is no public object for a scenario in the data store, that scenario cannot be surfaced in SAS Marketing Optimization.
