Overview

In order to use SAS Management Console to export or import SAS Visual Analytics objects such as reports and queries, the SAS Visual Analytics logical types must be installed on the computer where you are performing the export or import task. If the logical types are not installed, then you might encounter these issues:

• When exporting, the Select Objects to Export page of the wizard does not show SAS Visual Analytics objects even though you can see the objects in metadata. The page might also show some SAS Visual Analytics objects but not others, depending on which logical types are missing. 
• When importing, the SAS^® Package (SPK) file appears to be empty even though the export task was successful. If the file is empty, and you continue to the final page of the wizard, the log says "There are no objects in the package to import." The package might also contain some objects but not others, depending on which logical types are missing. 

Identifying the Problem

To determine whether you are encountering this problem, generate the DeploymentRegistry.html report on the computer where you cannot see the SAS Visual Analytics objects. To create the report, follow steps 1 through 3 in SAS KB0036131, "Using the ViewRegistry Report and other methods to determine the SAS® 9.2 and later software releases and hot fixes that are installed."

The DeploymentRegistry.html file is stored in a location similar to C:\Program Files\SASHome\deploymntreg. The file should contain all of these entries:

• SAS Visual Analytics Graph Builder Logical Types
• SAS Visual Analytics Logical Types
• SAS Visual Data Builder Logical Types
• SAS Visual Analytics Explorer Logical Types (releases earlier than 7.5)

Note: Depending on your license, the file might also contain a reference to SAS Visual Statistics Logical Types.

Review the DeploymentRegistry.html file and note which logical types are missing.

Resolving the Issue

To install the missing logical types, complete these steps:

1. Re-run the SAS^® Deployment Wizard on the machine where the logical types are missing.
2. On the Select Deployment Task page, select Install SAS software.
3. On the Select Deployment Type page, select Install Additional Software.
4. When you get to the list of software to install, select all of the logical types that are missing from your deployment.

Note: You must also use the correct release of SAS Management Console to export and import SAS Visual Analytics objects. For example, if you want to export objects from SAS Visual Analytics 7.5, then you must use the SAS^® 9.4M6 (TS1M6) release of SAS Management Console. If you want to import those packages to SAS Visual Analytics 7.52, then you must use the SAS^® 9.4M8 (TS1M8) release of SAS Management Console. If you do not use the correct release of SAS Management Console to perform the export and import, you will probably encounter problems with the promoted reports.
